One more picture request...

Ok All,, here it is. I apologise for all the pics but I wanted to try to show the condition of this knife. Not the best photoguy but this is it. My question is for a knife that was advertised as MINT, UNUSED, NIB, what do you think?
I gather Buck has not made a Stag with Damascus blade since 1991? This knife is just under 20 years old. Does it appear to be mint to you??

CTRAX! Dont jump my ass! I thought I picked the little pics! Sorry bout the bandwidth!:(

Mint is such a subjective word...
Beauty is in the eyes of the beer holder type of thing...
To a Non-knife nut I would say its in great shape, to a fussy collector it does have some scratches on the blade???? The small scratches on the bolsters will come from handling (not major problem), The scale glued back on??????
Maybe it never was used, to cut anything, but 20 years of handling will do its thing too. Being those are hard to come by I would take it :D

The only thing that would bother me would be the green goop between the scales and the frame.

Did I get hosed or what?

I would say not... This seller does not appear to be a knife collector, they will sell anything that anyone consigns them to sell. That is a risk of buying something that you cannot hold in your hands and view, Their pics do not appear to be hiding anything, and your zoom shows alot of tiny detail that the average person wouldnt even look for.
I would do as Buck_110 says and you will be surprised. She will be a beauty!
Good luck.

Whew,,,,yas gave me quite a scare there Hoe3. I had to go see if mine was still in the toy box.

Same knife right down to year, and barcode on the box, and cat #.... I will call mine as new as far as the knife, because it has only been fondeled. But the box looks much like yours. A tad shelf shuffeled.

Am wondering if the spine of yours has been laying against the sheath? But I don't recall the NS doing the green tarnish like the brass will.
and from what I can see of your pics, yours and mine both have the more yellowish than white, stag.

Buried here somewhere I posted a comparison,,,,once upon a time....in some thread....

curious thang about your tarnish.

...If it was mine I'd try a very unorthodox method of gettin' that thing cleaned up. The blade doesn't look bad at all IMHO...the bolsters can be made to look untouched and beautiful again...as for the green "goop"...I'd toss it in one of the jewelry ultrasonic cleaners like my wife has for her bracelets and rings...I'd use water and some dishwasher liquid and let 'er rip for an hour or so...I'd bet it would come out lookin' great...If the scales come off... ...I'd clean the liners up and re-glue 'em...Just send it my way...If it comes out great I'll send 'er back...If it looks terrible or in pieces not recognizeable as knife parts...:( :( ...I'll arrange for an honorable interment... ...:D...:p ...

I don't know...that's an awful lot of money...and that ain't mint... :(

I'd demand a refund and try again later...or offer it up here to the members here who think it's worth it, for what you paid for it...

Trax,,,,I haven't kept up lately, but don't DM Stags usually hit the $250 mark on the bay?

I would tho,,,complain to the seller as this knife isn't mint, and ask for some credit. If he balks, just tell him you are going to send high res pics to ebay with a complaint.

nah,,,,you are ok on the knife. There is nothing there that can't be cleaned up.

Darryl, dont ya think maybe some brasso before the jewlry cleaner?

...Larry...Brasso won't get in between the bolsters and the scales...The unltrasonic cleaner will get all the junk out from where it's sat for 20 some years...or.........it'll destroy the knife... ...Hoe best send 'er my way...I'll be gentle...heh heh heh...:D :p

aaaaso,,,, went back and looked at pics again...yeah, if that scale really is pulled away from the frame like it appears, I would try and return it. Sad thing is to loose shipping, but a small price to pay.

Or ,,,, send it to Joe and for the nominal cleaning fee, it will come back like new. If it truly has pulled away from the frame, Joe will get it fixed and probably no charge
