One more picture request...

Can see why you'd be bummed...and rightfully so based on the auction description.
If you had seen "your" pics in the auction, what would you have paid?
Maybe you wouldn't be so bummed if it wasn't "over sold" in the description and the pics were not that good?

EEEarl,

Yours look really sweet! :D This one appears to have a similar "yellowy" cast to the Stag like one of yours. I did notice on one side of this one the stag is beginning to "flake", "peel" like its drying out or something. Must be typical of stag. Is there a preferred way to clean the stag? Already been advised to NOT get the Damascus blade wet with water due to tendency to rust.

hay Hoe
here is my .02 worth on the knife
with what i could see that it was advertised as NIB
right there should have been worth a refund INC shiping!!!
it was false advertiseing as the kinife was defently a user at some time!!!
i would not leave not feed back tho...
there is a chance they did not know and were jest listing what the seller or the boss said to say...

sadly you got riped...

if the balde is that good tho you can send it to joe and you wont be able to tell it was ever any other way!!!

you will be out shiping ether way...

yea we all have gotten that ebay sickness of raped on opening a box...

Hi Hoe,
I took a look at your close ups and am pretty sure we can fix those issues. It looks to me like a LOT of little issues that by themselves might not be a big deal but since the knife has them all...
The only thing we cant remedy is the damascus. The only way to remove scratches on the blade is to remove the etched surface and start over. We might still have the etching cabability but I think not.
Usually you can get green stuff growing on a knife left in the sheath. I have seen this on brass knives but cant recall ever seeing it on nickle silver.
You pay to ship it here and we will cover the rest. I just wanted to throw you another option.

Joe...
As they say at the carnival..."go away kid, you're bothering me" LOL.
Wink Wink... ;) ;)

Looking for DMEDC in all the wrong places...

Mint is such a subjective word...
Beauty is in the eyes of the beer holder type of thing...
To a Non-knife nut I would say its in great shape, to a fussy collector it does have some scratches on the blade???? The small scratches on the bolsters will come from handling (not major problem), The scale glued back on??????
Maybe it never was used, to cut anything, but 20 years of handling will do its thing too. Being those are hard to come by I would take it :D

I agree, so I did "take it" :)

It's now my EDC.
The ONLY thing I don't like about it is that the scales don't match. Both are knice by themselves, and I like that they are somewhat phat fat, but they could've been matched better. My few other Buck stags all are closer.

The blade scratches are what appear to be from handling. The blade edge is unused/unsharpened. After time, I may, take some ferric chloride to re-etch the contrast.

Another red headed step child finds it's way to the Goose Home for Wayward Bucks.

Thanks to HoeDown for the adoption.

Goose,

As you know, I really struggled:confused: with the decision to return that knife to the seller, keep it myself, or pass along to another Buck brother. I am GLAD to see you using it as your EDC. :D I really wanted a safe queen and this one just didnt meet my expectations in that regard.:( Many said to keep it, some said to return, many said if I wasnt happy now I would never be happy later. I am glad you have "adopted" this poor bastard child and I know it's needs will be well taken care of in the future. :D One thing I did notice was that knife blade edge was SUPER SHARP!
I will continue my quest for that Stag Damascus Buck 110 safe queen and someday it will be MINE!:p

Congrats Goose! She looks like a very nice user to me! all the marks appeared to be from handling to me, glad you like it! How many red-headed step children is your wife going to allow moving in with you guys anyway? :D

...

Yeah HoeDown...
I'm a VERY happy camper. Glad you decided to send it my way. Why keep something you are not 100% happy with when you can recover your cost?
Why send it back to the seller when you'd end up spending $ for shipping and he wasn't gonna refund your original and return shipping?
So, I think, selling it to someone that knows of the concerns you had regarding it and is willing to give you what you put into it was the right thing to do.

I have been wanting a 110 Damascus user. I will take good care of it. I will use the 889SBMF as the workhorse.

Thanks Jim. I'm thinking the wife will let me have more mail order red headed step knives than she would let me have red headed mail wives ;)

Thats a very good point when you put it that way...
Next time I want another knife I will explain it to the Mrs.this way :D

Remember HOE3's pic of his 110DM blade in this thread?
I gave it a bath.
Scrub it with steel wool to get out scratches.
Warm to just over 100F degree (hot water in a cup)
Place in a 4:1 solution of ferric chloride and white vinegar for 30 seconds
WASH with soapy water
RINSE the entire knife with clean water
Pour 4:1 solution down toilet or feed to annoying crittrers.
All scratches removed and etch restored

Thanks Jimbo.
Actually I was able to get more contrast to show after the AFTER pic by rubbing lightly with "0000" steel wool and soap under hot water.
My wife thinks I'm nuts, but it was fun.

My wife thinks I'm nuts.

Welcome to the club Goose :D

I think all of us Bucknuts are in the same boat there...

Steel wool huh, I thought all that was good for was washing dishes and packing into glasspacks once pulled over :D
