One Pocket Knife For Life

The answer heavily depends on whether other tools or mutitools are allowed.

If yes then I would vote for an opinel 10 with a corkscrew plus Leatherman Crunch.

Otherwise it is going to be a custom SAK. I got one from SAKModder. Not a cheap thing but you can choose number of layers and then lego the tools you need into one knife, with titanium scales.

My modified Deluxe Tinker is amazing, I had chosen to make it one layer thinner by removing the can opener and the bottle opener. Then replacing the small blade by a combined opener. SAKModder also added a corkscrew to the side, opposite to the philips driver.

While it would be a tough choice to make, if I was truly honest with myself I would choose my Vic Super Tinker. It has all the tools I would need but is a realistic size to carry daily. Or, I'd have built a custom Cadet that added scissors. Hmmm....

Knife for life? I have tried many and have my favorites. But life is a long time, too short for some, and I would probably choose a 4" closed length jack knife made by GEC these days if I had to just choose one. I however love Vic SAKs, but one.....

I'll almost definitely have a different answer next time this topic sprouts up as a new thread (thus the honest answer is NO, I can't do one for life), but for now it is this amazingly well built (thanks Sal & Spyderco) and well designed (thanks Marcin Slysz) titanium and CTS-XHP tidy little R.I.L folder.

I'd have to agree with you! I own many knives, and the Bowie isn't even my most carried, but I would have to say it is my favorite and most practical. Everytime I throw it in my pocket, it feels like the "right" knife to carry and I always get a huge kick out of using it.

The one knife choice forces me to carry a multi-tool in addition to the knife.

As time has passed, I am reverting back to simpler knives or the kinds of knives I started using as a kid and always found them "enough" for a normal knife job. This would include hunting and perhaps skinning a deer or small game. Traditionally the woods knife is a fixed blade with a folder backup.

Right this second I would pick my 3" XM-18. It hits that balance between tough and practical just where I like a knife.

I guarantee my choice will change within 48 hours though. Probably to something more CRK related (small 21 insingo/Umnumzaan/25)

A delica, but its a close one against a small sebenza I just think the Delica would be easier to manipulate when I get older any hands don't work as well.

I've had a Schrade Uncle Henry 285UH since 1978. Good little pocket knife. Of course I have other knives for more intensive purposes.

I guess it is a form of torture to ask folks here to choose one pocketknife for life. Still, I really think I would take the Bushcrafter and back it up with a fixed blade on my belt. Remember, you could still have a fixed blade.

I have a Camillus Boy Scout camp knife that my folks bought for me when I joined the BSA. It's worn and the blades and tools are dark. The plastic handle panels have shrunk and curled at the edges a bit. This knife was purchased at the BSA department at the local Sears. I don't remember exactly when that was but I was a new scout and I am in my 60's so I guess I've had over 50 yrs. I still carry it sometimes...In a newer model, my Spyderco PM2 with my Wenger Tradesman. But, I could make do with my old BSA camp knife

I've owned a bunch of custom folders and a few got me thinking I may have found the one. But I was never serious about settling down entirely until I picked up my JWS. Suits my tastes perfectly and the execution is as close to perfect as I've come across.

I think it's just forum fun. Most of us have many more knives than we need and often more than we will ever use to ever cut something out of need. My initial post kind of forgot that the thread said "pocket knife" and not knife. Retaining a fixed blade or multiple fixed blades certainly changes the outlook a bit as for me the harder use tasks tend to be in the woods and that is "fixed blade land". Some choose to carry a fixed blade as their edc, often in the pocket. But I might still choose a medium large GEC folder as I really like them and they are made well.

I THINK... I found mine. Crusader Forge FIFP tanto. This knife is a folder/fixed blade.
Thanks, Keith.

If by "pocket knife" you mean a folder, then it's gonna be a Large Sebenza for me:

However, if a fixed blade is in order, a Fiddleback Bushfinger (production version, shown here with a Victorinox SwissTool Spirit) is my current favorite:

This has pretty much been all I've carried for awhile so it wins by default.
