Hi Knife Knuts,
Which one? HD-7, Strider SnG tanto, or Lrg. Sebenza? This knife is for EDC and self-defense only.
Thanks -Lycosa

None of the above, but if I had to pick one, it'd be the HD-7. For my hands, it's got the most secure & ergonomic handle, and by far the best opening mechanism for self-defense. The wave makes a big difference when panic opening.

HD-7 is nice but the price is crazy. I just played around with my friends BM 710 and I can get that thing out of my pocket, open, and to someones throat before they even blink.

You need somthing with an axis lock or a wave opener. How about a emerson CQC-7?

Joe summed it up pretty well, I think. The hd-7 will offer the best over-all grip, and the wave is good to have. It's gonna be the cheapest of the three by a good amount also. -I would also highly recommend the cqc-12.

The one on top :D.......................................................;)

Hmmm, I thought the HD-7 was a framelock, but that link from Demfer shows it as a liner lock. I'd change my answer if the HD-7 is not a framelock.

Get a cheap knife because if you are going to use it you will definetly loose it. Get a CRKT Crawford Falcon. I have 2 of them and for edc and ease of deployment and sharpness these cheap knives can't be beat. Wrote a rev. of one I just picked up last week. Knife performs and is built way way better than the 30 bucks I paid. It has excellant grip ergo's, has an excellant weight and feel to it and the blade is a classic clip point with excellant edge geometery and it cuts like no tomorrow. I know I know cheap steel blah blah blah. Thing is steel shouldn't matter when using a knife like this for edc/s.d.

First the folder has to have a reliable lock. On both of mine the liner does not budge on it when spine whacking out towards the end of the point. This lock is steady. The blade opens very easy, has a nice knurled thumb disk that gives a positive feel on ones thumb. As stated the knife is handle heavy so I imagine you could crack someone up side the head with too.

I have a choice of many different brands of knives to carry. All top brands too. I am finding this CRKT Falcon is a sleeper. It is sharp as hell, easy to open and stays open, and if I have to loose I wouldn't hesitate to. These are just my thoughts though. keepem sharp

Thanks for the in-put everyone. I''ll let you know which knife drains my wallet.

The last thing you want is to have some blood-stained ninja-looking thing making it look like you had intent to use it as a weapon.

I'd rather have a real sleeper and not go to jail because my stupid knife made me look like the bad guy.

Your best bet for self defense is Krav Maga. Carrying a knife for defense and using it against anything other than an obviously deadly attack will land you in jail, and/or cost you your house in legal fees.

Hd-7 is a frame lock. That ad is wrong. It's very similar to the cqc-7, except for the lock.
The knife picture by Solo is a spyderco yojimbo, the top one has a wave modification.

HD7 is a frame lock. I'd go with that or a CQC 8 or CQC 13. If you're worried about being hit with "monster knife" Spyderco Delica/Endura wave, ATR or something along those lines

Self defense knives need only be made of a tough steel, as edge holding is a secondary concern. They also should open quickly and be held open despite external forces to the spine or sides. Finally, they'll offer some protection for the thumb and hand.

With the exception of CRKTs with LAWKS, I don't like linerlocks. My first preference would be a lockback design.

Regarding blade design, I don't see anything wrong with a tanto, but a lot of people don't like them. Hawkbills have proven very popular of late and I understand they're quite effective. My own personal preference is for a long blade, 4-5 inches.

Of those listed, my pick would be the large Sebenza. Of those not listed, I'd choose a CRKT M21-04 or M16-14T.

The M21-04 (above) is easily carried, opens quickly, locks
decisively and protects the hand. The AUS8A stainless
blade is elegant and effective and has no teeth. It's a
good, strong knife. The M16-04 (below) is a tanto version.
Both come with flippers that double as stabilzing guards.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I belive the Axis lock is not suitable for a Self Defense MBC knife.

The above is what I've gathered from multiple consistent postings (regarding Axis suitability for SD) from the experts/trainers/MBC knife designers in this and other Edge Tool forums.

Yes, and it was always based on "believes".

In other words, just bla bla since years.
