You sound like me. You will never find me without a pistol, an extra magazine, a fixed blade, and a folding knife, on my person. You’ll also never find me more than a short walk or run from a backpack that has another fixed blade, a multi tool, a pistol with additional ammunition, among other things.CPK Behemoth and HDFK.. I'll actually have them as well. My go bag is never more than a quarter mile from wherever I am. I make it a point. I can sprint across a quarter mile in less than a minute if I really move. I also always have a gun. Even when I'm not supposed to.. screw them.

I hope/assume you've got emergency medical with all that? Two spare mags and no tourniquet is a mistake. Not every victory is flawless. You sound like me. I am former law enforcement of 15 years and lived through my own officer involved shooting. I am aware and I have those bases covered.I hope/assume you've got emergency medical with all that? Two spare mags and no tourniquet is a mistake. Not every victory is flawless.
Excellent! Hope others read this and do the same.I am former law enforcement of 15 years and lived through my own officer involved shooting. I am aware and I have those bases covered.
Yeah.. pretty much. I refuse to find myself in a situation where I need to rely on another man to protect me, and/or keep me alive. You sound like me. I had this discussion just the other day. Generally speaking, I don’t trust many people. I definitely don’t trust anyone, but me, to protect myself and my family. Unless it’s 100% unavoidable, I do not go to places that I can’t carry.Yeah.. pretty much. I refuse to find myself in a situation where I need to rely on another man to protect me, and/or keep me alive.
Obviously I think differently than Most.....
I'm ok with that.
For my eotwawki knives I'm always choosing a chopper first. Mine is only 18" long, it's still packable, easy to carry. This is a low temper, cryo treated 3v by a well regarded, highly praised individual.... I have BIGGER available, but heavier, but definitely beef, house, & people capable. But Big.
Next, Yes .....a chef's knife.
To cook the rest of you....... Yum!

Those two would 100% get the job done.
That chef’s knife is on fire!Obviously I think differently than Most.....

Profound ! ……and now I’m even more confused about the structure of this excellent thread.Unfortunately, we've deconstructed and reconstructed this thread concept so many times that we've not only committed the construction steps to memory, we've lost the instructions.
How's that for breaking a metaphor?
Preparedness is near the center of this hobby. Knives have been with us for a long time, even if their only use in your life is to deal with stubborn snack bags. For many, a knife represents a Dumbo feather: a talisman of safety against the frustrations of a pre-wrapped life, and things that would try to "unwrap" you.
The "realistic" answers are quite boring, and depend on your location, and destination, when this sudden, largely unforseen, ender-of- civilization happens.
If I'm doing my usual stuff, my goal is going to be to get away from other people, but a knife which can be used to keep those other people away from me stands the chance of being not very useful to me if I do manage the "away from other people" part.
If encouraging other survivors to play nicely is something I want to do, then the first "knife" is going to be a machete. I'm going to back it up with a prybar and a hammer, because I've found many things that would want pried or hammered, and I don't expect that to change. If the hammer is actually a "camp hatchet", so much better.
The second knife would be something like the 110 that I mentioned earlier, or a trapper-pattern of some kind, because I don't know duck-diddly about wilderness survival, but that's what Nessmuck used.
I think.
If we're writing the script for a post-apoc survival story, then it's Zombie Tools and Busse, for the win!
But only if you want to be boring.....
Yup, having owned and used both, I’d agree that this combo will do just about everything a knife will do. Well played sir.CPK Behemoth and HDFK.. I'll actually have them as well. Good choices. Nathan makes some immaculate stuff. Truly.I would throw all my eggs in one basket and go with a Carother’s EDC knife and a Carother’s 10” chopper. I have the EDC and I have the 10” chopper on preorder so I can only hope the shtf holds off until I get the chopper![]()
They really don't seem to take any damage no matter what I chop them into. The only thing really is the stonewash is all smooth looking now from scrubbing tree off them with a brillo pad. I pair em with my GP100 since it's also nigh indestructiblea as gun standards go, and .357 is easy to reload.Yup, having owned and used both, I’d agree that this combo will do just about everything a knife will do. Well played sir.
