Only 2 knives for s.h.t.f

They really don't seem to take any damage no matter what I chop them into. The only thing really is the stonewash is all smooth looking now from scrubbing tree off them with a brillo pad. I pair em with my GP100 since it's also nigh indestructiblea as gun standards go, and .357 is easy to reload.
Agreed on all accounts, barring that I haven’t owned a GP100. My SP101 was a sweet little wheel gun, though.

This thread has really got me thinking about options. I’ll post something up this weekend after the OT dies down. Hopefully the S doesn’t H the F before then. 🤔

Having gone through Jungle environment survival training in the Philippines during my military time and once as a refresher once I retired.. My personal preference would be a small fixed blade backed up by a larger fixed blade.. the small fixed blade would be similar to either my polkowski pole cat or my loveless clone new york special for light work.. for the more brutal work, it would either be my randall 14 or one of my custom fixed blades.. One of which has proven it's worth when we had a police unit slide off the hard pack road and I had to respond to get the new troop out of the jungle when he had buried the unit to the rocker panels in mud.. had to chop 2 inch in diameter wooden branches to get the unit out of the mud and back on the road.. The first pic is my loveless clone new york special, the second is my polkowski pole cat.. the 3rd one is the knife I used to cut the branches to get the unit out of the jungle. The 4th is a stock picture example of my randall 14 which is in another location .22008297_10212482493591070_5029734155903263955_n.jpgimg035.jpg615602_4400843052930_229414505_o.jpgrandall_attack_14_open_L.jpg

Those are some fine fixed blades and thank you for your service ! That Loveless Clone really stands out, in regards to my personal tastes. 🔥🔥🔥

Besides an old security-six, a gp100 is my favorite ruger .357.

Profound ! ……and now I’m even more confused about the structure of this excellent thread. 🤣🤣🤣 I’ll keep milling through my options and post soon. “Two knives for S.H.T.F.” will be my guideline.

Some posts are taking the idea seriously, some are not. Everybody is going to have a different answer because they've had different experiences. I have never done any kind of survival anything. My ideas are based on a lot of reading and listening, and what seems reasonable from that second hand knowledge.

Well, been meaning to respond to the thread for a few days but it was an ass kickin’ week of power line work. 82 hours. 😥💵 That said, some have alluded to the fact that the 2 knives they’d pack when the s.h.t.f. are the ones on them at the time. I agree.

For me, two questions still remained. Where am I at when shit goes downhill? How much warning do I have ?

Depending on the answers to those questions, here we go…….

In the work truck:

Around town:

At the crib in bed (only one knife….and never use a knife in a gun fight 😎)

In the woods:

Zombie apocalypse 😂😂😂 !!! :

War:

The Carothers (CPK) UF2 is pictured twice. Reason is, it is one of the most versatile fixed blades I own. Thus, UF stands for “Utility Fighter”. It should probably be DLC coated or stonewashed to reduce reflection in tactical situations. Well, we use what we have, right ?

Here’s where I really got stuck:

I’m rarely anywhere without a multi-tool or SAK. Hard to be without such a capable tool. At the end of the day, I suppose a feller could find one along the way, if the shit really hit the fan. 🤷🏻

Have a fine day BladeForums fam !

To back up my posting about the SHTF thread, when I was going through the JEST in the Philippines, the instructors used one short bolo which is a local machete measuring about 12-14 inches long for most of their work in the jungle environment.. They issued each of us one that we carried during the training and it was used for everything from chopping bamboo to prepping our meals of snake meat and other jungle delicacies. I had one for years and still have one or two around the house which is used for clearing brush, taking the heads off of the snakes that sometime come around the house,. The bolos are made out of spring steel and are about 1/4 inch thick, so they are a little more substantial than the normal machetes used in the americas, but these bolos are also used for personal defense when the case for such action is needed.. There are some units in the Philippine military that still carry them and are trained in the use of such edged weapons.. I've been training in the survival arts of the Philippines since the early 70s and did some instructional duties for the medics that I worked with at other military bases both stateside and overseas.. This included the survival training as well as the edged weapons use in self protection

This is a tough one. Depending on if I’m in the wilderness or an urban environment my choices would be slightly different.
First off. My Leatherman ARC is never far from me. I don’t EDC it, but it is in my lunchbox or my truck.
I hope that I was carrying when the SHF this time and I had one of my .45s on me. But, would prefer my AR10! 😆 Lastly I would want a larger fixed blade that can take some punishment. I choose the Busse Badger Attack because it’s full flat ground INFI. It’s thick, but still slices.
It’s interesting to read the different choices and your reason why. We aren’t preppers, but having certain things set aside “just in case” is a godsend when something happens.
