Only traditional's for one month

i usually have a kershaw in my rear hip pocket. it's handy and i like it but it's just a knife to me.

this case lives in my right front pocket and gets used for most any cutting task needed. it has become my favorite.

The only knives I have carried this calendar year are these:

I have yet to need something else. I suspect that I will continue this once the year is over.

I think you'll find there is very little a one hander can do that a slip joint can't.

This is very true for the actual cutting tasks, however I can't cut out the one handed openers at work for their, well, one handed opening :P I wear gloves all day, and usually when I have to cut something, one hand is busy holding something else.

Even if two hands are free, the gloves make opening most slipjoints a chore.

I have been moving more and more traditional at home, and on the town, though.

I got a Case small stockman in stag for Christmas last year, and it's seen a lot of carry since. Sometimes I switch it to either a Buck 301 or Old Timer 80T, but I like the scales on the Case a lot better. I'm thinking of buying a Case medium stockman later this month to kind of bridge the gap between my tiny and larger stockman knives. It will probably see more pocket time than the other three put together, even though the Case small stockman was my first case and is my favorite knife right now.

Last week I've carried Case penknife in CV + GEC #73 yellow rose liner lock. Next week perhaps I change it Gec #72 and Queen dan burke small barlow? Going to carry trads only till next month.

Went out for the day with my lady, I edc'd my trapper again :D
Saw that the sport chalet by my house had a Silver Alox Vic Soldier for 20$
Gonna hold off til I get some extra cash though.
Gotta pay the bills.
I didn't use the trapper for much today just mail I forgot to check on friday. It's slowly dawning on me that the folders I put away really can't do much EDC things a slippie or traditional lock-back can. I'm also kicking myself on all the money I'd have for slippies if I didn't have a safe full of modern folders lol.
But I'm just rambling now so I'll go read some of JK's stories and make a mental list of the Case's, GEC's,and Queen's I want while I read and surf the online dealers:o -Andrew

Left the house yesterday and today with the Farmer on a tether dropped in my left pocket and my SS Soddie Jr in my right. I did stop in a local hardware store that stocks some Case knives and now I have come to a fork in the road. They had a Stag Trapper in the case with no box they told me I could have for $50. I am thinking I need another knife to add to the rotation. Only problem is I wanted CV and its a SS model. I do have a question though... Will it still be a traditional day if I wear my MT? Ahhh heck with it I will do without tomorrow and see how it goes.

I will need this thread to keep myself from slipping. So NTS KEEP IT UP.

;)

Is the Farmer the MT?

No i have been EDCing a Spirit for about a month now and adore it. But I will go without just to see how it goes.

I'm in the process of selling off my Spydercos. I do have a Leatherman Wave I carry from time to time. Other than that, though, I'm down to only carrying SAKs and/or traditional knives.

Around the house & off-work, it's pretty easy to stick with traditional knives & they sure to seem to slice better due to their thinner blades. However, for work, 1-handed opening is sometimes needed & when I wear gloves, well, let's just say a modern folder does have it's place, too.

I have been trying carrying a small FB & a slip-joint lately & that seems to be working out pretty well.

Good luck with carrying a slippy for the whole month.

Funny I have been thinking about this thread this morning and it occured to me that a while back when I gave myself a slippie/carbon blade challenge I never went back. I have lost track of how many months it has been but somewhere along the line in 2010 I went from a tactical knife carrier with a strong interest in slipjoints to an every day slipjoint carrier who only on rare occaisions feels the need for a one hander. Happened so quietly I didn't really notice till now.

I love this thread! It's interesting ..... educational ..... encouraging ..... refreshing ..... all rolled into one - especially to a 60-something year old guy like myself. I have nothing further to add - just wanted to let you all know that I'm enjoying the thread, and enjoying watching your progress! ;)

I can't remember the last time I didn't carry a traditional (folding) knife.
(Been a good long while now.)

When I need something that can take a bit more hard use or can be opened with one hand I carry a small fixed blade, most often a traditionally styled neck knife. The size makes it very handy and the carry method keeps it readily available.

As far as suggestions for Case knives go, here are mine;

-Humpback Whittler
-Gunstock, large or small
-2 bladed Copperhead
-CV Stockman

The Humpback Whittler has ridden in my pocket the longest as it is just ready for any job. It is a three spring, three bladed knife. An excellent user.

But I don't think I could go a month on slippies alone. Love my tacticool too much!!:D

I went through the tactical folder craze myself. In 1989,or 90,I bought a Spyderco Police and escaladed from there. Now,for the last few years I carry mostly slipjoints.I find they have more soul and remind me of simpler times.;)

I think a challenge like this is a good thing to do to yourself once in a while. It clears things up on some matters of what is really needed on a day to day basis. Sometimes if we challenge ourselves, we see a truth that was hidden to us before.

Heck, it was few self challenges that led me to a major downsizing years ago. I had to task myself to see what I really didn't need at all.

Nowadays, if I need a one hand knife, I'll have a small fixed blade like my Brusletto Balder or Roselli grandmothers knife on me.

I also only carry slipjoints these days. Aktually I mostly always did but for a few years with 2 benchmades and two spydercos. The last year I had the great luck to be given two cases by sunnyd and got to by two cases from forum brothers and now realy has the feeling of using great knifes with personal caracter. The american traditionals Is hard to get here in Sweden but is realy knifes that talks to me. I to think that the true uppsizing from a slipjoint is a fixed blade. Like Carl I have a grandmothers touth from rosselli but mostly uppsize to a knife in the 10 cm range of blade and never feel the leed for a bigger knife besides my 15 cm butcherknifes. Yesterday I goot 115 kg of moosemeat to prepare and a day like that one needs butcherknifes bad.
