Only traditional's for one month

About three weeks ago I made the decision to look into traditional slipjoints as well.

Now I have:

Buck Cadet Jigged Buffalo Series
Buck 301 Single Blade Stockman CW
Buck 301 Single Blade Stockman DW
Buck 301 Single Blade Stockman YW

Case Canoe Silver Script Hunter Green
Case Cigar Whittler Chestnut Bone
Case Stockman Silver Script Hunter Green
Case Sway Back Jack Hunter Green
Case Swell Center Jack Silver Script Hunter Green
Case Texas Toothpick Silver Script Hunter Green
Case TrapperLock Silver Script Hunter Green (I know, it has a lock)
Case Trapper Silver Script Hunter Green

Bradford Fairall Black Pearl Slipjoint

And a couple of Old Timers....

Now I have to take a break and pay off the credit card. :)

Truth be told I can't remember needing a knife for a task that couldn't be handled by one of my slippies. The thing is I like knives, of different makes and models. As much as I favor a nice stag handled stockman, I'm still drawn to modern folders, Nepalese khukuris, and other assorted fixed blades. Even as I type this I have in my pocket a Microtech LCC with carbon fiber handle scales and titanium bolsters. Slipjoints are great, but as a knifenut I still want more.

Today was my rehandled SAK hunter. Had Gary Della replace the classic red with stay glow:) and my 1978 Case SS Slimline Trapper. Cut my sandwich with the trapper, cleaned my nails, and opened some food for the baby. The SAK was used to turn an adjustment on a cable box and slice up some paper. I was opening my GEC Furtaker when I got home to compare it to my new large trapper and cut my knuckle on my thumb. Here is a pic the trapper inspired by NSS and his amber bone. My only problem is with the blade length. WOW are they both long. I though my GEC was a big knife. Oh well I will give it a try anyway. Basically it was too god to pass up. My local hardware store had it but no box so they cut it to me for $50. I think the stag is great. Only gripe is the shield sticks out a bit.

Today I had a Knifeknut moment and EDC'd my Trapper, Hammerhead, and Explorer.
The Explorer stole the show though because after I used the phillips driver to adjust a burner I ended up using the knives to open the boxes of parts I needed because it was handy. The trapper was on lunch duty again and got I got a look from a co-worker when it sliced clean through my orange :D The hammerhead stayed in it's belt sheath. I mostly carried it to see how it felt. It wasn't bad but it was definitely noticeable.
Thanks for the comments and support! :) -Andrew
EDIT: Thanks for the trapper pron HAKnPocket ;)
I hope it ends up a keeper for you, but everyone's different so be honest about it when you carry it :D
(because if it ain't I know someone who's VERY interested )

Hey guys the bills are paid and I have a little $ to spend.
I've brought the list down to:
Either a Buck 301
A Case large Stockman in amber bone and CV
OR 2 Case Sodbusters.
A large black handled one in SS and a yellow handled jr in CV.
Oh And my copperlock should be here today :D
Pics and a comparison to my trapper will immediately follow
Then I'm on call for work from 6-10pm :barf:
Not a fan of night shifts but it might bring interesting chores for the copperlock.

Andrew I carried the Trapper today and I liked it. That spay blade looks huge though. Oh well I am going to give it a week. It rode in my right back pocket and was quite comfortable. Used a it to cut my sandwich at lunch and break down a box. Used the SAK to open some plastic bags that were tied shut. I forgot that yesterday I broke down some boxes with my slimline trapper and actually used the pen on my midnight mini champ at the post office to fill out an envelope.

EDC'd the copperlock and my trapper.
Gave the copperlock to my girlfriend when I got home.
Just wasn't for me.
I'm definitely getting a Case Stockman in Amber bone and CV to replace it though :D
I'm going to bed guys. thanks for everything -Andrew

I just got my amber bone stockman in CV. It is much better looking in person. Beautiful knife.

Still going strong. Hope I can make it through the weekend. Andrew I did give the Trapper another chance. It actually makes a pretty good back pocket knife.

I think the Vic Explorer and my Trapper are my favorites. (EDC'd them again :D)
They make a useful pair in my everyday workload and days off.
Today the explorer did it's usual job opening boxes and disassembling burners and compressors, as a companion to my toolbelt of course.
And the trapper cut my sandwich, pear, and cleaned my nails. (after eating ;))
As a sidenote I ordered the Amber bone stockman
And I've added a Case Yellow handled pen knife in CV to my list. I won't lie, it's a jackknife inspired purchase :D
It should be a good back pocket knife for me.
Goodnight guys -Andrew

Do the terms of this challenge allow for the use of multitools as long as you don't use the knife blades on them? If so, I can say I started today (With naught but a Swayback Jack (And Swisstool Spirit, but that doesn't count, right?)). Not having the convenience of a one-handed opening knife clipped to my pocket is going to be killer at work, but I'm willing to try. I've managed a week before with just slippies....

I think me and HAKnPocket decided against carrying non SAK MT's.
If it's a necessary tool for work, go for it.
I have a tool belt at work so having pliers handy is not an issue for me.
A good rule of thumb IMO would be to only carry a knife that someone who frequents this subforum would recognize as traditional.
Basically slippies, traditional style lock-backs (like a buck 110),and traditional style necker or small fixed blades. Good luck :D

I had the day off so I only carried my trapper.
It opened the mail and a clam-shell package for a toy I got my son.
Then it sat in my pocket all day :D
It was pretty uneventful, but a nice day overall.
My stockman will be here on Wednesday so that's something to look forward to.
Thanks for the replies and participation :) -Andrew

The trapper went solo today because I was on desk duty :D
It opened a few packages, and then did it's usual lunch duties.
I've found I prefer the spey blade for peeling oranges and other fruits.
Not much else to talk about really, So I guess I'll go to bed :)
Thanks guys -Andrew

SAKs only guys. I did scratch my itch for occasionally turning a nut or bolt though with a 4" adjustable wrench thrown in my back pocket. I am goingto design a back pocket sheath for it and a large folder to see how it works.

So far so good in carrying only traditional knives. I did notice that my huntsman was hitting the tip o the main blade on one fo the inner liners dulling it a bit but mydremel took care of that. The large trapper is serving me great as aback pocket knife. I normallycarry my slippie in the same pocket as my keys but I don't want to mess up that amazing stag.

Oh boy am I liking this Trapper. Pretty easy day I think I only cut my sandwich and opened a box that contained a BRKT Bravo 1 I traded for. I did switch to my farmer when I noticed that the huntsman's main blade was hitting a inner liner. I got it fixed but I still need to touch up the edge. I do think I will talk to a local leather guy about sewing up a pocket sheath for me. I am thinking something about 4" wide and about 4.5" tall. It will hold a large folder and a 4" Craftsman adjustable wrench. I have been carrying one everyday for about three months now and it is extremely handy. I have used it to pick up hot grill grates, turn bolts and nuts, and even bend some metal back into shape. Pretty handy if you ask me. If I could get my hands on that SAK bushcrafter I would scrap all other folders for a while to see if I could get away with it.

Had yesterday off, decided to go to my buddies house to watch the game.
After that him and some other guys talked me into some"light drinking"and poker.
Called a cab at around 2am and pretty much passed out on arrival at my house.
Overall a pretty good monday :D
I had my trapper and Vic Tinker on me but both stayed in my pockets,as a rule drinking and sharp objects are things I don't mix.

Today I'm off again and nursing the mother of all hangovers, and my trapper is keeping me company.
Nothin to cut but mail so far. -Andrew

I'm still too much the tactifool to go without my Combative Edge M1, but a new Northfield single-blade trapper will in my pocket for the foreseeable future as EDC.

Today went great again. Carried the trapper and the SAK again. I remember using the trapper to open something but can't remember what. Oh well. Still going strong.
