Only traditional's for one month

i usually have a kershaw in my rear hip pocket. it's handy and i like it but it's just a knife to me.

this case lives in my right front pocket and gets used for most any cutting task needed. it has become my favorite.

I'm late to this party, but that stockman is fabulous. I carried mostly modern stuff till I joined up on BF, but I have almost completely left them in the knife drawer now and carry one or two traditionals to cover my cutting chores. I have not felt at all "under equipped".

So what didn't I need a clipped folder for today? Well it was a light day and I didn't even carry my Vic Spirit. I opened some mail, some vacuum packed chicken, and even a bag of rice. No serrations needed, no one hand opening, no clip, just plain ole' slip joint power. If I get time I will snap a pic of my rotational collection. Today was the SAK Farmer and a Schrade SC505 and loving it. I do think I am going to pick up the trapper I spoke of in a earlier post tomorrow.

Today I EDC'd my Case trapper and Victorinox Explorer. I used the screwdrivers on the explorer for a bunch of stuff at work.
(building, repairing, and replacing AC and heating units)
The clip blade on my trapper got relegated to breaking down about 25 cardboard boxes from an order of myriad burner parts we got from UPS today. And then it cut my apple and sandwich for lunch. And the bottle opener on the SAK was used to open my coke. (mexican coke with glass bottle)
This is all going a lot more smoothly than I imagined.
I haven't even looked at my safe, let alone wanted/needed one of the twenty-something knives in it. They're going to be sold to get $ for GEC's and a traditional neck-knife.
.....or two :D
Thanks for all the comments, participation, and support. -Andrew

off topic but how do you clean your knife after cutting the apple ad sandwich? also do you oil your blades? if not do they rust?

I don't take any great care of my carbon blades, yet have not had one rust. After using on an apple or sandwich, I'll swish it around in a creek if I'm by one, or rinse it off in a water fountain if there's one close. Or dribble some water over it from a water bottle, and wipe off with a corner of a bandana.

I don't oil blades, dirt will just stick to the oil. I just keep it fairly clean and dry, and if not possable, then that night it will get wiped down with a clean rag or cloth. I just let it darken.

 I just wipe 'em down with a wet napkin.
My trapper has a pretty serious patina from the last 4 months of off and on carry.
I almost forced one a while back, but decided to let it do its own thing.
It doesn't have the prettiest blades around, but beauty doesn't define character does it? :D
I'll post some links to pics later after I get off work :p

Today I EDC'd my ... Victorinox Explorer.

The venerable Vic Explorer. My all time favourite SAK.
Had mine for 20 years now, and it's been standing tall to all the tasks I've given it.
Good choice, Andrew
If you want to get a second SAK, try the Farmer.

And for a more american style traditional, try a moose with rounded bolsters. You'll have a hard time finding a knife more pocket friendly.

Today was an easy day knife wise. Carried the same combo as yesterday but this time I used the Mini Champ. I am a fiddler I can not keep me hand still so I opened and closed my stockman for a while today. :) How about you Andrew?

Here is a pic of my current EDC slippies and one neck/ pocketable fixed blade. The only one missing is the Mini Champ on my keys.

Again I EDC'd the trusty trapper today and I didn't do much so it sat in my pocket doing nothing. But that's ok because that pockets it's home now :D
I have a feeling it's gonna stay in that pocket for a LONG time. It fits my hand, the amber bone appeals to me aesthetically and the CV steel quickly became a favorite.
I'll still give all my other traditionals and slippies pocket time...
In addition to the trapper :D
However I have a Case copperlock in SS and purple/cobalt jigged bone on the way, so we'll see which knife sees pocket time after it gets here.
I think I know which will win though ;)
As usual, thanks for all the comments, participation, and support. -Andrew

Only a month?

I don't think I EDCed anything but traditionals for the first 30 years I carried pocket knives.

Right now I am a combo man. I carry a one hand opening modern folder along with a traditional slippie. I am on restriction from Rob and Gus for getting busted for carrying a Benchmade. I am trying to do my penance.

I cut up a lot of food stuffs with my carbon steel slippies. Afterward, just wipe the blade dry with a napkin or whatever's at hand. If you're near a sink, you might run some water over it. If not, a little saliva works. ;)

I'll give you a tip about cutting up juicy fruit like apples, pears, peaches, etc. Keep the blade pointing down, that way the juice won't drip into the joint of the knife.

Other than a very occasional drop on the joints, I hardly ever oil them. No rust problems.

thanks for all you tips/comments on knife maintenance! looking forward to seeing not-too-sharps pics!

The spey actually has like a cloud of spotting near the spine under the nail nick.
I think giving the clip blade all the use kept it rust free and left the spey to suffer.
I'll just take some bar keepers friend to it and make sure I use it more often.
Back to work for me guys. I'll post my day and EDC later.
