Open Fire Cooking; Bone-In Chicken Noodle Soup

Ever tried to carry one of the small aluminum dutch ovens? Mine are all cast iron so I don't know if the aluminum would be light enough to carry (as part of a group's gear, for example).

No...I've only seen them on-line. I want the chance to check one out in person before dropping the money...or at least see a review on how they feel and how they cook first.

No soup for you.... two weeks!

That looks almost good enough to eat.... mail me a small ziplok bag of it, will ya?

Nice knife too..... I know you have a soft spot for SOG's.... lots of history for you, bro!

Thanks bro, lol, it would have been much better had I removed the bones as I would in the kitchen but that would have gone against the theme of the idea. Lol, in a so called survival situation the fat and the marrow would also be very valuable.

From what I've read it was the eating of bone marrow that created a major change in brain size in the development in early humans...causing a big jump in intelligence and causing the cranium to have to grow in order to accommodate the larger brain that developed.

Yep...wasn't it about two years ago or so that you were quizzing me on why I liked the SOG that I carry? Funny...you succeeded in forcing me to reevaluate my likes and needs which in turn simultaneously reconfirmed that I love my SOGs and allowed me to see the value in full tangs all at the same time....though I don't carry any other stick tangs anymore, I love my SOGs.

You got me hungry.. I think I am going to go eat supper now .. I just need to find out what it is :D

Lol, I was hoping more to inspire in the area of wilderness and survival skills, not give everyone the munchies.

Thanks, glad you liked the post!

Getting rid of the chicken skin before or after cooking it, should be considered a capital sin... :D :D :D
Nah, I can see how someone worried about loosing weight or suffering any kind of health problems would want to skin it. If so, do it before cooking, otherwise you won't discard much fat.
Mikel

Nah, a better way to keep off the weight would be to drop the noodles. Carbohydrate drives insulin drives fat accumulation. It IS a sin to discard of the most nutritious part besides the bones, the fat.

Yeah, I was thinking I had some rice when I started it...but then looked when it came time to add and all I had was noodles...so...chicken noodle soup :)

Well, I would have cooked over a fire(as I do cook rabbits occasionally), but my yard is a lake right now. Flooding .. have fish swimming in my yard. (Literally there is fish in my yard)

Shoot, I hope you're catching some of them. Would be a geat time to fashion a fishing spear and get som practice!

Looks like it's time for a new recipe...the boss has tasked me with cooking with smaller pots something more like these, probably a little bigger since one of the specifications is that it has to feed four. I don't think a whole chicken will work this time lol, this should be interesting.
