I like the easy open notch. How does it feel when you hold the knife in it's open position? Here’s a #6 I modified a little bit. I rounded off the bottom of the handle and added the easy-open notch.![]()
A bit of a warning, if you take much off of the point of the handle on the bottom, the tip will be proud and you’ll have to remove part of that as well.
It feels fine to me, but I don’t typically use my knives for any prolonged time. I just generally cut or slice something and put it away as opposed to whittling, skinning a large animal, etc.I like the easy open notch. How does it feel when you hold the knife in it's open position?
To be totally honest, i’m still deciding what i’m gonna do with it. I can’t change the entire handle in to something else, since i don’t have any nice spare parts of wood or stag.Kevin-B So, when do we get to see the results?
For some reason I thought you had started on it. The charring sounds cool. Keep us posted when you do it.To be totally honest, i’m still deciding what i’m gonna do with it. I can’t change the entire handle in to something else, since i don’t have any nice spare parts of wood or stag.
I think that I’m gonna keep it like this. For now. The reason im gonna keep the wood like it is, is because i like the blank color of the wood, and i can’t get any wood stain since my country is in full lockdown. And if i were to order some it would be way more expensive then what they sell for in physical stores. I’m gonna put some clear lacquer on it to seal the wood. And i’m gonna read up on how to cave. I really wanna carve or burn a fun little pattern in it. I’ve also been intrigued by fully charring? Burning? The handle black and lightly sanding it so some of the wood comes through.
Like i said in my first post here, i’m really not creative and i dont wanna mess up and do something irreversible.
Thanks for you question.
It's pretty hard to get Beech to take a stain darkly. For some reason I thought you had started on it. The charring sounds cool. Keep us posted when you do it.

Just to he clear. To start charring I’d basically just have to keep a jet lighter to it? Or a blowtorch? There is no prep needed before hand? It's pretty hard to get Beech to take a stain darkly.
If you char it then it will take the stain well.
I used a dremel tool, with a dremel ball bit.Nice. What did you use.
No8 is probably with all things considered the most useful size. You can also use a photo-hosting site, like imgur. So far as I know, there aren't any size limitations doing it that way. I use it for posting images here.
And on that note, here's a pic of 3 of mine (No. 08 size):

Outstanding work sir. This one started life as an Ebauche model. I had to fill part of the blade slot so the spoon wouldn't leak. So I made the blade into a sheep foot.

I used a cheap harbor freight belt sander to do the grinding, with a container of water to dip it in, to keep the blade cool.
I think that if you go for a lambsfoot shape, you would be taking material off the back of the blade as well as the end. That might require removing material from the slot side of the handle, so that you could still get the blade open.
O.B.

Of all the mods I have seen this is one I realy dont like, sorry. After a quick search i found this picture. I really like the pattern on it. Shouldn't be too hard for me to do![]()
I think i’ll go ahead and try to replicate this.
Excuse the rather bad quality of the picture. I couldn’t find a better pic of it.
