Opinions on Pocket Slips

While I was at Tandy in Syracuse NY I picked up what's called Milled Leather, it's more supple that regular leather and I am able to emboss on it. Even with slip sheaths I prefer to match the sheath to the knife, so I don't really like making generic type sheaths, this one the knife thunks into place so it doesn't come out unless I pull on the lanyard.

I like it and the thunk,did you make the knife as well?

Johnnythefox Johnnythefox thanks, and would that I had that talent to make the knife, I don't talent wise or tool wise, it's made by Trivisa and it was one of two that I own, the other is a clip point, if you see one, I'd recommend either that one or this one that I am keeping;

I have a simpler sheath for that one since it doesn't have a lanyard pin, lighter leather so I can push the knife up and out

This slip has a clip on the backside. It clips onto the pocket and keeps the knife up right and ready to grab. It works great for trapper sized knives.

I have a nice slip with a clip that holds a Sodbuster Jr, it is the right size, just sort of bent the clip by accident so it does not hold as well. I like the idea of the Buckaroo slip that Horsewright makes, the thong wraps around a belt loop so you can pull the slip out of the pocket, then remove the knife from the slip.

Thanks sir and I have been trying different colour threads too

I never needed a slip when I carried a Buck with a saw cut Delrin handle. It got a few dings here and there, but nothing bad. Now I carry a Lionsteel with ram's horn handles and I keep that in a slip. No need for a fancy slip, just one that I can get the knife out of quickly without fumbling.

I just picked up this Hide & Drink slip on a whim. It's designed for things such as carrying a SAK and flashlight together. Not sure what I'll finally end up doing with it (maybe a Vic Electrician and a Mini Maglight?). For now I'm trying it out with my Buck 112 Slim Select (nail nick version and with pocket clip removed). Seems to be nicely made with a flat back and bulging front so that it is comfortable in the pocket but has plenty of capacity.
