Opinions on Pocket Slips

I use these beauts that I won in a JohnDF GAW (the case 63090 was a bonus:D in the package, the 53 pictured is mine) with a generic gec for some larger ones for three seasons! The summer season is almost as humid as Houston sometimes up here, so only old knafs or ss and loose in a dedicated pocket is my way….

Baseball… what !!
I love ‘em all MLB teams!
That’s a 5” Robeson strawberry GD Barlow that I use a reading glass pouch for now, thin fabric for coat’s pockets in the fall, winter and spring !!

I love it with the patch on there... well designed and really cool. 🤠
May the Force be with you, my friend. :)

Never thought of a slip till this thread..
Dad likes a real nice mop copperhead of mine so he's carrying it, along with his keys, etc.
I got these thin reader glass pouches they come with so I gave it a try today. Not bulky, worked very well, wasn't a hassle when I went for my knife.
The challenge of getting 86 years of set in his way to give it a try is another matter. :)

That’s a really cool idea to repurpose something

My most prized traditional is carried in a slip. It was pricey, and I want to keep it looking knice! <— see what I did there?

I have had slips tarnish some knives before so I dont store it in the slip. If I take the knife out of rotation I take it out of the slip.

I use pocket slips all the time for the following reasons:
It does help protect the knife from dings etc
I find the knife rides better in the pocket
It helps prevent lint and whatnot from getting in the joints
You can easily find, make, or have someone else make custom slips which I’ve enjoyed a lot because you can have it done in a way that adds personality to your carry.
Agreed, i find it rides upright in my pocket with a slip, stays cleaner and doesn’t get beat up by keys, change, whatever. It’s also something you can make unique (or have made) to a specific knife which is pretty cool.

As many of you here at BF know, I become absolutely mortified whenever one of my knives gets the tiniest scratch or ding so, instead of using a pocket slip I strive to store my knives in a safe manner - on the tin roof on my wood shed, in the root bed of a tomato plant, on the banister rail of the back porch, etc. and carry them in a soft, cotton, pocket, with scratch-resistant, soft, copper, pennies.
You were raised right.

I make heat wood, from felling trees to stacking logs, a retired guy job. At the end of the day my pockets are filled with wood dust. I don't know anything worse than wood dust in pocket knives, it's a chore to clean them. As you can see aesthetic isn't my concern but the slips i make are efficient. Made of fine leather they wrap perfectly the knives and keep them clean.

I like pocket slips for my nicer knives, but you have to remember to take your knives out of the leather slips if you aren’t going to be using them for a long time. I’ve had a few that developed rust/pepper spots from sitting in the sheath too long. Leather holds moisture.

I received another one from Yura in the Ukraine yesterday, they seem to have a lot of good leather workers over their.
I asked him to alter the dimensions to fit my Trapper, its so perfect I ordered another one for my Remington bullet that will be 6 from him alone.
Its also quite nice that you are interacting from people in other countrys and cultures.

Though I was once held hostage in the friendliest manner possible by Ukrainian paratroopers in Sarajevo, they wouldn't let my convoy out for a couple of hours..
I was sent to remove UN owned equipment from their camp as the Russians had taken/stolen all their UN equipment home they wanted to do the same.
FYI in those days I carried a Gerber Gator mostly for cutting ropes and bread.

When i was searching for a good quality pocketslip it was very important to me that it had a pocketclip. I really didn't wanna "lose" the slip in my pocket, i also wanted my knife to be easy accessible. After a long long while of searching i found a German maker who makes very high quality handmade leather pocketslips with a integrated pocketclip. In my opintion this is the best way to go, always have a pocketclip.

I'm not sure if i'm allowed to say the makers name on here, so i don't wanna take any risks. But here are a couple pictures!

I have been thinking of getting one of his, expensive but well made and thought out.

Natalia's latest pouch for me arrived today, very pleased again.

While I was at Tandy in Syracuse NY I picked up what's called Milled Leather, it's more supple that regular leather and I am able to emboss on it. Even with slip sheaths I prefer to match the sheath to the knife, so I don't really like making generic type sheaths, this one the knife thunks into place so it doesn't come out unless I pull on the lanyard.
