Opinions on Pocket Slips

I haven’t been home in a few days until now. I have more slips, but those came with knives. These are my favorites. One has a clip in case I want it clipped to me pocket. One has a stag bead because Stagurday, others are much more to incorporate other interests/my personality into my carry, and then a simple double slip in case I want to carry 2

And no one mentions the obvious good reason for using one...... Friction folders!

In my opinion they are essential for friction folders if there is even the slightest chance it could open in a pocket. I use them only for friction folders.
I'd never carry a Higo in my pocket without it being in a slip, doesn't bear thinking about one of those razors opening in your pocket!

And as for ending up sideways in your pocket you simply get a slip with a clip fitted that way it can even stay in your pocket as then knife is removed & replaced so takes no more time........
I do use slips in my pocket, if not in a belt pouch 😄

Agreed about friction folders, I carry mine in a custom pocket slip/pouch. Also keeps it straighter in the pocket

I am just getting in to traditional folding knives. It is an excuse to carry a second knife. I am enjoying learning about them too. I got a Case trapper and copperhead both with synthetic covers.

I carry them in the same pocket as my keys. Should I be worried about them getting damage by the keys? What about nature covers like bone or wood? Are they prone to damage?

Are pocket slips necessary to protect the covers? Are certain types better than others? Do you have any tips or pointers on the subject? Any help would be great!

Thanks again for the

A must in my opinion, before I started using them I would have knives slip out of my pockets when sitting down all the time. Fortunately, never lost one.

I hate the feeling of a horizontal knife lodged in the bottom of a RF pocket. Small traditionals loose, small moderns loose or clipped (depending) and large traditionals in a belt sheath. Organizers? Sure, but inthe RR. Larger moderns get clipped to pocket. Heck, sometime I'm so lazy that I even pocket a knife in the fabric bags that I store them in and use the drawstring like a fob to draw 'em out. me not in a hurry to cut!

Ok, so, I have a problem ;) but, it's alright, it's my problem so it should not concern anyone else, but, in a pocket dump just now, these were present, not including a flashlight, fisher space pen, whistle and I forgot to throw down the small Baby Banter that was clipped in my back pocket. Where I use to work they would try and guess how many knives I had on me at the time, and I've actually 'cut' back, so...progress :)

This little guys been around the world with me, lost it one time in Trinidad, actually I had left it on the machine I was working on, came back the next day and it was gone. The supervisor in the plant read the riot act to the workers and a few days later it came back, the guy said 'uh it was lying in the road between the two buildings...uh...' lol I was surprised it ever showed back up!

Gary I really like that last slip for your red Sak. Wet formed? Looks great.

depends on if im in scrubs or jeans. I bought some slips that have clips built in for the scrubs situation as those pockets are notoriously shallow. In jeans i tend to put the knife in my back pocket but without coins. New every day user will be an 85 in acrylic soon tho, so no need to be as careful with bone or wood.

FLP is my phone and a pocket piece that my sister gave me. It’s a silver dollar. LBP is my pocket notebook and a pen. RBP is my wallet, which I adore and won’t store anything with. It’s an Ashland bifold made of football leather from Wilson that was gifted to me by my parents. Brings me to RFP. I carry a silver money clip engraved with my kids’ initials. I use a pocket slip not to protect the knife, but to protect either my money clip or my phone. This is if I’m wearing jeans. If I’m wearing gym shorts, I use the slip because it adds bulk and friction for retention. I’ve had knives just slide out of my gym shorts before when sitting on the couch.

That Ozzie Smith baseball glove slip is awesome!:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:
I'm a Detroit Tigers and Chicago Cubs fan, but I never hated the Cardinals. And Ozzie Smith was a star for me when I played in a Strat-o-Matic League (cards & dice simulation) for a couple of winters around 1980. 🤓

I carried this Gerber Silver Knight everyday for about 40 years. I never used a slip, mainly because I didn't know such a thing existed. After so much time rattling around in my pocket with keys and loose change the wood was worn down to almost nothing. When I retired it a few years ago, I went into moderns and the pocket clip solved the wear and tear problem. Now I'm more into traditionals so I've picked up a few slips. I don't use them for every knife, just the ones I really want to protect.

Thanks. A buddy I’m stationed with made it from a glove I picked up. Just got it this past week and I’m in love with it.

I have some real nice slips from all over Europe.
I like to use but not abuse my knifes I wont put one loose in my pockets with keys etc.

Mine protect and keep the knife clean especially if I will be using it on food.

I keep my SAK that I use around the house loose in my pocket but with nothing else its visage I don't want unnecessary dings plus I use it constantly.

That pretty cool. I want to try that now. I would want to cover the edge around the top somehow and stitch

Great looking sheath!
There are some imperfections for sure, but it’s not something he normally does and it was free. The slip screams baseball to me and has a lot of character. I sure hope it’s intended owner enjoys it.
If you do end up making any I’ll look forward to seeing what you do. I really like the uniqueness of all the cool slips we see on here.

I use a pocket slip only when i want to protect the finish of my favorites knives, most of my slipjoints are light user so these goes in the 5th pocket of my pants with or without a slip. Most of the time when i carry my knife in a pocket slip it's because i also have a flashlight in the same pocket. I always use a pocket slip when my knife (and flashlight) are in my main pocket to avoid scratches. I clip my flashlight on the edge of my pocket slip to keep it the more compact possible. KSF pocket slip works great for that. I tend to carry my knives in a GEC Urban Jack sheath when i clip my flashlight directly on my pocket. I still need to find a good pocket slip with a pocket clip to make it easier to carry in the main pocket without being too bulky to grab my wallet in the bottom of that pocket.

If you look up “clip slip” on the google machine several options pop up from at least a few makers

I bought this knife in Spain,in the next town on Monday morning a leather shop next to my hotel opened his doors.

I asked him if he could make me a slip for the knife I gave him the French sheath on my GEC 71 as a pattern.

As I was packing my bags and leaving in a hour he did a fine job,he wanted more time.

I love it perfect fit.
