Opinions on Scandi for SHTF?

Scandi grind wouldn't be my 1st pick for my one and only survival forever situation knife, but I could make it work if that was all I had. Use what I have the best I can.
But if I am getting to choose things to have, I might as well choose to have a sharpening stone also.

You'll go into full-blown hunter-gatherer(scavenger) mode in a very short period of time as food supplies and drinkable water run out. Fight or flight instinct will become your normal, and it's likely anything you meet on two legs is out to kill you for what little you have. Realistically, you'll upgrade from your scandi at the first what's-left-of-what-used-to-be-a-sporting-goods-store you stumble across in the post-apocalyptic wasteland of what used to be your home. I wouldn't worry too much about it, should be a piece of cake....

I assume they had scandi edges on their knives
I don't like to assume but if you can find a reference for this that includes what they used to do the sharpening, that's great! Also were these peoples nomadic? Doesn't count for this scenario if you have a nice safe place at home where you keep your special tools.

I am sure there were home places, but I am pretty sure that the Landi people were nomadic if they herded reindeer. Puukos and leukus and their survival were the real thing as opposed to a Zombie Apocalypse or Walking Dead scenario.

If you don't have a sharpening stone, the edge won't be as pretty as it would be with one, but it will still cut.
What would you use? I thought you had to have a stone and a flat surface. That's why I had the idea that in this scenario it wouldn't be a good choice.

H

How would you keep it sharp?
It has an edge just like any other knife. Just because the traditional way to sharpen is to lay it on a flat stone, doesn't mean that is the only way to get a sharpened edge - talking functional tool, not mirror polished, hair popping and perfect bevels

I had the wrong term, the Saami or Sami people.

The finished edge of a car window can be used to maintain a scandi grind fairly easily, and we won't be running out of those in your lifetime, nor your grandkids' lifetimes.

Good answer! I actually used this once on a non scandi and it worked ok but I thought a scandi sharpener really had to be a wide flat surface. Like could use a ceramic rod for a scandi (not in this scenario, just in general) and it would work?

why would it not work? Every single answer you posted seems to me a fairly simple trolling attempt. Seriously, like somehow a 'scandi' is special and requires something special to sharpen?

I'm honestly a bit surprised no one has mentioned you are brand new bf registration, ... created to make this thread?

Doesn't it? I thought a scandi had to have a wide flat stone on a flat surface. That's basically the whole point of my question. About the rest of your post I won't bother commenting.
