Opinions on the Kershaw Blur?

So I have my mind made up between a couple knives... now I jsut need to know which model to buy.

I really like the Kershaw Blur.

The choice I have to make is in the steel; the standard version is 440A SS/Tungsten DLC coating.

The second is s30v steel on the blade, no coating.

The difference? About $35 more for the s30v.

Is it really worth it for the better steel?

Also, I can't decide whether I want a tanto/serrated edge or a plain edge.

Opinions are very welcome!

thanks,
Grey

One of the local dealers, kershawguy, is selling some S60V Blurs for a decent price. Maybe you should jump over to the dealers section and take a look and see if you like it.

Kershaw did a run of S60V Blurs, only 15 passed their quality control so kerhsaw guy has been selling a lot of the blems but is probably starting to run low. I don't know how easy it is to sharpen. The 440a is an old steel used by kershaw, they eventual upgraded it to 13C26, and just recently upgraded steels again to 14C28N. So there is a chance that the seller is selling and old blur that has 440a blade steel.

Amazon is using an old description. S60V isn't easy to sharpen from a fully dull edge. It is not hard to maintain though when it's already sharp. If I had to choose one, then it would no doubt be an S60V from Kershawguy. They come sharp as hell, the "blemish" is a mere wave in the grind line, and that OD green color of the scales is just awesome. When I'm carrying a Blur it is either the S60V or the SG2. You can't go wrong at the price Kershawguy sells em for.

Ahh. Thanks for the info, brother.

I don't really like the handles of the S60V, so that'll be a pass. Hell of a price though!

So where can I find a dealer that has a good price on the S30V/the newest version of the regular steel?

I will be using the knife for EDC tasks/the occasional seatbelt cut.

I'm not for sure try the dealer forum, two that come to the top of my head right off the bat are 2brothersknife and NewGraham.

Thanks guys!

how can you tell what the latest version (steel wise) is? Is it in the model number? (It definitely is with the S30V)

And should I get the regular one or the S30V? GAHHH

I got s30v version for 65 bucks from man venture outpost, not sure any stock remains.

My old 440A Blurs worked great - they did set a while when dulled. They just needed resharpening often on my Spyderco Sharpmaker - which is very straightforward. Their biggest fault? The abrasive roller skate grip-tape - it was sharp edged - took years to wear down. Great EDCs then, however. My newer one, black with stone-washed S30V ($62 on evilbay), has a more rubberized 'grip', by comparison. It's blade came less sharp than the razor sharp 440A's - which were hair-raisers.

Thanks brother.

How can I tell which version is which in terms of the steel other than S30V?

And where did you find the S30V for $62 on Evilbay? for that price, I would definitely get the the S30V. I wonder why it was less sharp out of the box?

I just bought a sharpmaker, but I have almost zero experience with sharpening, so I wouldn't want my first knife to be a brand new one
