Opinions on the Kershaw Blur?

I love my s30v and s60v blurs!

s30v is my favorite steel, takes a little longer than some others to sharpen up, but i find it takes a screaming sharp edge and does a danm good job of holding it. The blur platform itself is a great knife. Whether you get it in 44oa, 13c26n, 14c28n(one of my new favorite steels btw) s30v or s60v, you wont go wrong with a blur.

You got to see those handles up close. It is one of the nicest OD greens I have ever seen. If you don't want S60V Kershawguy has S30V Blems as well. Check here:

Oh yea..love the green handles. 2 S60V Blur blems. One as received and one after being Krein'd.

I'm partial to the black, but I have to admit that the green does look damn nice.

I went to walmart today and looked and the tanto/serrated blade... I noticed it doesn't say anywhere on the box what kind of steel the blade is...

Yuck. Either get a fully serrated knife or a plain edge. Just personal opinion but i don't find Partial serrations useful at all. A tanto point is fine, but it's easier to maintain a plain edged droppoint rather than a partial serration tanto if you're just starting out, and if you have no sharpening experience. Just my .02.

Hey Grey,

I just received my S60V Blur from KershawGuy yesterday. For 52 bucks shipped to your house it is a steal. I almost felt guilty for a minute. Its an excellent deal on a pretty decent blade. Big enough to use, speed assist rocks, ken onion design, its a pretty well put together little knife.

Don't know what the difference in S60V and S30V for sharpening. I love S30V and 154CM. I will be sending this baby to Tom Krein for a regrind. I could see this blade being EDC'ed.

Also have to agree with Suzuki. Drop point, plain edge blades are all you ever need. Serrated knives are great for cutting bread but as a tool you will be using frequently, the serration take up too much of useful blade space.

This of course is my opinion. Any rate you should be happy with any Blur made with quality blade steel.

It's the sandvik 13c26. That particular Blur at my local Wal*Mart is $62. The blems from Kershawguy are a steal. The S30V is $49 and the S60V is $52, which includes the shipping! I had a Skyline with the 13c26 steel, it was okay but not anything spectacular.

i have never sharpened my s60v blur, it sits in my case waiting for me to get the $$ to send it to tom krein. But from what i know of s30v and s60v, i would think that s60v being harder ( it is harder, right?), would take a bit more time sharpen than the s30v.

someone please correct me if i am misinformed.

I would definitely get the regular drop point... the tanto and half serrations are crap.

I would prefer to get a new S30V, for no other reason than I have no experience sharpening.

The newer 14c28n or the one available now, 13c26n are the easiest to sharpen. Get yourself a spyderco sharpmaker. I can use the fine rods and produce a nice edge.

i have to say that the 13c26 kershaw used to use, and their newer kershaw exclusive 14c28 are on par wiht each other in terms of ease of sharpening. Ithe newer steel has better edge retention as well.

S60V was ran at 57-58, the S30V is ran at 58-59.
Initially, S60V was ran close to 60 HRC but it chipped pretty easy
so they dropped it down a little and was ultimately dropped by Crucible
in favor of the tougher S30V. S60V is still a great steel and I wish it
hadn't been discontinued.

Naw, not showing off...or I'd put up a pic of ALL of them! :p

I do like the S60V, but I've only carried a blem. Haven't cut anything with the non-blems.

Personally, I like the SG2 a lot better. It will take a wicked edge, and doesn't mind being thinned down a bit, either!

I haven't seen a SG2 for sale in quite a few months. Only 1000 pieces, and the run ended in August 07, I think. I used to see them on the bay for around $125 or so. But not anymore. None to be found!
