Opinions on the Kershaw Blur?

IMG_0083.jpg

Now that is purty, S30V, SG2, and S60V altogether :D

where abouts can i get an sg2 blur?

other than at your house.

I used my Google skills found one in stock $139:eek:. Never heard of the site, they sell martial arts stuff mostly. "Gungfu" is the name of the site. I paid $52 for the one I have in Aug 2007, should have bought more. I would like to see some more SG2. A Skyline with green g-10 and SG2 would be real nice. :D

The Blur has always been a favorite of mine because of the variations of steels and color choices.

Yeah, Blurs are pretty awesome. I've tried to pick up all the different models I could possibly find. I love the S60V Blur, but I must admit that the SG2 is my favorite and most carried. I also wish that more Kershaws were made in SG2. The Ti JYDII is probably one of my favorite carry knives of all time.

Definitely S30V from Kershawguy. You really can't go wrong at that price. Pull the trigger my man.

What do "blems" mean? From what I read, it means I'll have to sharpen, and I really don't know dick about sharpening haha

The only thing wrong with the Blur blems (blemishes) is the grind line is wavy. You don't have to resharpen it, it has no effect on the edge.

You wont have to sharpen it, blems mean that KAI quality control found a defect with the knife and wouldn't sell it as a regular non blem. Most of the times (especially in the S60V's case) one of the grinds is a tad bit wavy, so minute most people wouldn't even notice. I have compared a LNIB SG2 JYDII to a blem SG2 JYDII and I don't believe I ever found the problem besides a sticky frame lock that took me a couple of seconds to fix.

*NOT MY PICTURE*

The grind we are referring to is where the sharpened portion of the blade stops. When you look at the knife in the picture you can see how the top of the sharpened portions "waves" a little bit.

If you look at the edge you see a bevel creates the edge. Follow the top of that bevel and right about the center of the blade you can see a slight "wave" in the grind. It's nothing big and does not effect the knife at all. Infact it's of such insignificance that most people have no idea what the blemish is. Trust me bro, you can't beat the deal. Buy a blemish S30V or S60V. Don't be afraid, just do it. You are being told by the guys that know best. Just trust us.

GreyMethod,

I 'won' my S30V on evilbay with a bid from a B&M store. They were ~$75-$85, same as the SG2's I should have bought (20-20 hindsight...).

My desk drawer full of dull SAKs & early Kershaws had my two new, delivered dull, Benchmades - and one of my Spydie Natives - awaiting some sharpening. The Sharpmaker was used first on a recently dulled Buck 110 (Blasted appliance box break down!). I was shocked, as all of my AR stones, while great on my single edge carving/turning tool edges, had really enabled me to screw up double bevels. The Sharpmaker changed that. My drawer full of 'butter knives' became hair-raisers. My best-ever knife purchase!

So, how do you tell the metal? Check the assembly date. We did have a great Kershaw sub-forum, sadly gone now. You'd have to search that to find build date vs metal info. I didn't buy the S30v (or SG2) for a long time - and that choice was villified by the Sharpmaker's ease of returning the basic steel's edge. Of course, you can't beat the bragging rights associated with the big-buck blades! In all seriousness, S30V, at least from Buck, Benchmade, and Spyderco, has been my 'favorite' blade material. For example... an S30V/BG-42/CPM154 Buck 110 may keep a useful edge longer than the 420HC that is their 'standard' - but they take a lot longer to re-edge - and never seem to be as razor sharp as the 420HC - just my observations. With S30V, you have to 'know when to stop' with the Sharpmaker - again, not as ultimately sharp as that 420HC. Just my observations.

Stainz

PS That Sharpmaker even worked on my well-patina-ed CS slippies (Boker Tree Brand, etc).

I own a Blur and It is a great knife. I'm 66 and new to tacts always collected slippies. I bought mine at Wally World.

I was checking out the dealers for sale forum a month or so ago and ran across the thread with the s60v Blur blems for sale. I picked one up and was quite surprised at how much I liked the knife. Perfect size, great looks and wow the s60v got really sharp after using my ultra fine stone and stropping. Last week the sg2 Blur came up for sale on the exchange and I had to grab it. Great for edc imo.
