Order Mistake In My Favor

I remember when I was a child about 30 years ago. I bought a brand new hockey stick. It broke the very first day and I was so disapointed (age 14). I wrote the company "real" letter about how I felt to spend my cash on a stick that broke one day one. A week later the sent me 10(1!) new hockey sticks in a big packge. That was absolutely magic for me. That´s the greatest customer service I´ve ever experienced. Still love the "Jofa" (not in business anymore) company for this!

If you had received the wrong item and it was cheaper, you'd probably be bitching & moaning about being ripped-off, wouldn't you?

Honesty goes both ways.

On paper? Yea - but in reality 99% of humans are only honest when it suits their interests.

Welcome to the forum Wallbright :D

Hahaha, well put.

Very sweet deal Wallbright - enjoy your sharpener! Don't mind all us crotchety internet forum users. :D

This is kind of in the same vein. I was looking for a log scribe (hard to Find) & got the name of an old guy who lived up in Northern Minnesota, who sold hand made ones. I got ahold of him, and he said "I'll put one in the mail for you today". I said "Hey, I haven't paid you yet", and he said " That don't matter, I've never been cheated by a log builder yet". His money was in the mail that day. Honesty is pretty cool.

So you aren't even considering returning it for the item that you actually bought & paid for? If you contact them, they may even tell you to keep to to save shipping costs.

This. Integrity means a lot to some and nothing to others. Good on you for calling and displaying integrity ;)

One of the well known companies with representation here send me an extra box with my last order. It had 10 Kabar jr. 's with the black rubber handle. Almost $600 worth of stuff. Being it was addressed to a priest in TX, I figured it was for either soldiers or scouts. I called them to get them the order picked up and 1st, they wanted me to drive somewhere to UPS it, not have it picked up. I got that straightened out and had them have it picked up here at my house. During this time I felt like I was being a PITA the way the store personnel treated me.

I got them back on track but the people at the store never even said "thank you". :)

I'd have a difficult time living with myself if I was the type of person to try to keep stuff that didn't belong to me. In my experience, people like that tend to over complicate their lives anyway. One step forward, two sideways, one back. It's not worth it. I may not be rich but at least I can sleep at night. :)

Honesty is it's own reward.

Totally off-topic...

Tim Tebow's OT TD toss Sunday won him $250k, as well as winning the Bronco's wildcard game against the Steelers. The play was technically illegal as stills and the game video clearly show - only six players were on the line - the rules state seven minimum. Of course, there is no penalty - if you don't get caught. Not judging anyone, least of all Tim Tebow, but I wonder if his conscience will permit his accepting that $250k prize. Of course, if it would help him, and my altruism is sincere, he could donate said prize to a saddened Steelers fan... me!

I'm liking my new Spyderco Sage alot. It's light enough to be a true pocket knife, no clip necessary.

OMG, the guy made out in his favor. Get off your high horses cause everyone of you would have the same thing he did. You would have kept it and been happy. He didn't set out to defraud them or steel anything. I for one am glad he got over how many times have you/we been shafted by an order. Yes it may have been sold by an individual, but if he can't manage his business any better than that then maybe he should hire some help that can. Good job Wallbright way to win one for the little guy.

See, this attitude would completely bug me, to the point where I'd probably go, "Look, your company made the mistake, not me. And I'm trying to help you. If you're going to be rude to me, then we can end this conversation right now and I'll save you the trouble of correcting your company's mistake." And if I got attitude, I'd end the call and have a clear conscience about it.

That said, good for you for doing the right thing. It's just a shame the customer service rep (so to speak) didn't get it.

Moe, It did sort of bother me. Don't get me wrong. I don't think I need to be rewarded for doing what I'm supposed to, ie: the right thing. What bothered me was the rep seemed more interested in covering up the mistake ASAP rather than dealing with the problem. Being as that rep made the sale for me the day before it might have been their fault, or the shipping dept. I don't know but it was a strange situation.

I've used that dealer for about 8-10 years so next time I speak to the owner I'll bring it up.

Well my main concern was missing a hone honestly. I believe legally if the item I received is of higher value I can keep it at my discretion as it was an error on their part. I ordered from Amazon and with them being a large company and having great customer service I doubt they would ask for it back. I admit though that I probably should have told them they sent the wrong one but at this point after using it (and the item arriving opened) I doubt they would want it back. Thank you though seriously for keeping me an honest man as I appreciate it. After writing this and thinking about it some more I will give them a call just in case.

Legality isn't the issue here. It's morality. And ethics.

There is no way you can make the assumption that everyone here would do the same thing. The only thing that shows is that you would have done the same thing, not us.

I have actually been in this situation. For less than 10 dollars once, and over 300 one time also. Guess what I did, both times? I notified the mistaken party and returned/or payed for the items.

if you want to nitpick...the right thing to do would be to pay for the difference in the cost. even if company tells you to keep it.

Is everyone finished asserting their moral superiority over another new member? No? No :barf::barf::thumbdn:
