Order Mistake In My Favor

:S This is the first thread I read since joining BladeForums. It's a little intimidating.

You need not be intimidated. The people here expressing concerns over integrity aren't trying to be elitist or anything like that.

You have to think of it like this; a LOT of things in the knife community are done on an honor code. MANY of the things us knife nuts do is done based on the assumption that the person we are working with is an honorable person with character and integrity. Whether is be a custom maker, or a buyer/seller on the exchange. Our little community is built from honor and integrity, so we do not take kindly to the people that don't express those characteristics.

Of course, that's just my .02 cents on the matter.

I would'a kept it too!! It isn't your fault they messed up and sent you the incorrect item.
That speaks to your character. I could go a lot deeper into the issue, but why? You've said enough. ;)

In a wqorld where it's easier to do the wrong thing, doing the right thing is refreshing. No need to be intimidated by ethical behavior. In the end what is right is right. I agree with my friend CTS, well said.

Is everyone finished asserting their moral superiority over another new member? No? No :barf::barf::thumbdn:

If there was such a thing as the "Internet Olympics" asserting moral superiority would be on at 8:00p.m. and there would be cheerleaders.

Pfft As if you know my character!!! I love how white knights on the internet try to act all high and mighty when 99% of them would damn well act immorally.

This isn't going to end well at all.

Kudos to Wallbright, though.

Three pages of posts extolling the virtues of being honest, in the general knife discussion forum. I am amazed it is still here.

Pfft. As if you know his character. I love how scumbags on the internet try to assert that everyone else would act like them. Muhahhahhaa!!!!

It's ok you old farts don't get your panties in a bunch :x Now if you don't mind i got some grannies to punch and some little people to make fun of, and ohhhh almost forgot, i gotta hit up wally world and clean that mother out!

I have been in Law Enforcement for 20 years and one thing I know is a humans nature. Anytime someone can get over on another they will. Many people don't set out to be dishonest but if there is a mistake in their favor they will take advantage of the situation 90% of the time. So all you guys get back onto your little samurai code of honor high horse and tell yourself your better than everyone here.

Couldn't have been put any better!!!! Those pesky samurai stand no chance against the mighty ninja warrior!

To play devils advocate here.....

You give your 20 year experience as a LEO to verify that you know human nature. You are painting with a broad brush. As a LEO, I would say that most of the people you deal with are criminals or are alleged criminals. You are taking a sampling of people known to be dishonest to qualify your beliefs of people in general. I think that is folly at best.

That's akin to a race car driver saying that all cars on earth can go over 200 mph, just because all of the cars he sees on the track are capable of that.

On paper? Yea - but in reality 99% of humans are only honest when it suits their interests.

Me thinks you got that backwards, 99% of US humans ARE honest, always

And Georgia Guy, if that were true the USA crime rate would be 90% higher.

In MY experience most people are honest and do the right thing, even when no one is looking. The 1 or 2% of the world that do not are the Earth's scumbags and are the reason we have Laws and rules.

Wolfmann601-I don't know what news you watch but all I see on it is 90% bad. As stated before unfortunately most humans are honest when it suites their needs, NUFF SAID.
GG out looking for other topics!

if you want to nitpick...the right thing to do would be to pay for the difference in the cost. even if company tells you to keep it.

Sorry, but that's just stupid. If he had wanted to buy the more expensive item, he would have ordered it to begin with. It's their mistake, not his, so he shouldn't be forced into buying something he didn't intend to. Notifying them of their mistake is one thing, but what you're suggesting reminds me of those bums that used to walk the streets of NYC, washing people's windows against their wishes and then demanding to be paid.

Ordered a case (5,000) of large, rifle primers (Federal Gold Match 215M's) many moons ago (online) and received a case of Federal, small pistol primers. Called the company and they said to keep 'em, sell 'em or whatever, but they weren't going to pay any additonal shipping or HAZMAT fee's to retreive it. Anyone who handloads knows that 5,000 primers of any ilk isn't cheap, much less shipped with HAZMAT fee's attached. They also said that they'd send my original order on to me ASAP........no extra charge. Since I have no HAZMAT license to ship such an item, I couldn't send it back no matter what. So, I took it to my closest candy/gun store and traded 'em straight across for another case of primers I either needed or would need in the future. I do lots of business with this gun shop each year, so it was nice to be able to do that.

Nothing that anybody could do about that situation, but I definitely "made out" on their shipping error. Unfortunate circumstances, but never really felt any jubilation over the incident. I'd done business with this company in the past and had a good relationship with them. A bit like kssin' your best friends (age appropriate) sister............kind of OK, but not really.

Not exactly like the OP's situation, but I did find myself on the receiving end of someone else's mistake. Don't know the OP from Adam, but my sense is that he was just a bit thrilled to have something go in his favor given his recent bad luck. Sure, it was pretty clear he was braggin' about it and some responses posed to him were quite appropriate in regards to choosing options to keeping his small, albeit, perhaps larger to him......windfall. But other poster's seemed to delight in a bit of character assasination and proceeded with a "better than thou" attitude which, IMHO, went a bit further than necessary. Urging one to do the "right thing' is one thing......disparaging another person, is yet another.

I can't help but feel that a bit of, "he who protests too much" was somewhat at play here, but cannot discount the fact that we all have our own ways of "encouraging" others to conform to what "we" may think is the best approach in handling such circumstances.........whether it is or it isn't.

To state that somebodies single post is so "telling' as to show that he is 100% of bad character (either directed towards the OP or those who didn't post harsh enough comments disparaging him)...............pretty pompous, at best.

You are right it is their mistake not his...but shouldnt he "show his integrity" by sending in the money for the product he received or send it back and request his original purchase to be sent to him?

It was kind of sarcasm. quite a few people were "getting on his case" about not contacting the company about their mistake and telling him he should make it right by returning it. i was sort of taking it to an absurd level and suggesting that if he really wants to show his "integrity" to send them the difference in price for the product he recieved
