I can tell you I took the picture and I was working.
With the diamond rod, should I only use that on blades that have been beat to hell or are either very dull or are a tougher steel like VG-10? I feel like I would just take a bunch of steel off. Also, if my knife is pretty sharp and I just want to touch it up, should I just use the fine rod? Sorry for asking so many questions, I just like to know as much as I can about something I might buy.yea that seems to be the one, thats what i ordered. free shipping with amazon prime. sapphire kit can be acquired cheaper on ebay, i think i paid like 12 bucks lol. stropping just seems to make the blade bevel even and a better edge.
When you say 20 or 25 degrees, is that inclusive? Yeah that's what I wanted to do. I was going to practice on my OD-2, if I did find a way to screw it up, I wouldn't be totally screwed. At my skill level of 0 with sharpening, I don't plan on reforming or making a new edge.its a learning curve, usually i only go back a few stones once i set the angle, usualy 20 or 25. i dont really worry about resetting angles or removing too much metal because its all about sharpness. My recent damasucs sharpnening venture went very very rough, but really really sharp. I would practice on a few knives until you get the hang of it. I have sharpened over 100 knives on my lansky without fail or issue. The extra course is really only for reforming an angle, or making a new edge. I set 4 kitchen knives tonight with the extra course stone, all the way through the sapphire stone.
Ok thanks for all the help. I'll shut-up now :foot:No, not inclusive, but its plenty of edge

You gotta try some M390 man! That stuff is sick.because i love a strong blade. my shallot damascus is a user and i couldnt be happier. strong blade retention is my preference. i want a shaving edge that lasts days, weeks even. I work hard and i want my knife to also. Second best is my cb leek, d2 holds up really well against hard use as well
Yes steel I watch viper keeper, he is nuts.
Dam chester You must really like the TiLT
I saw some one talking about farid k2 that thing is sick.

Just use a sharpie to mark your bevel so you can see where you are hitting with your stone. That will eliminate the fustration of knowing if you are sharpening all the way to the apex ( very end of the edge ).When you say 20 or 25 degrees, is that inclusive? Yeah that's what I wanted to do.
