I was thinking of getting a nice sharpener but I dont like the time requirements. So it looks like Im going to pick up a nice paper wheel. I managed to get my 0301 sharp with a old crappy one.

Does strapping make a noticeable difference in maintaining an edge?

It does to me Bobby. If I use my blade a lot when I get back home I'll throw it over the strop a few times and she's goood to go for another week or so. I think I have been stropping more lately than sharpening.

^This. The man knows of what speaks. I use my strop after a couple days of use. I go over a month without touching a stone.

I don't know. I've only heard of people doing that. You should try it though.

I read that stropping turns the edge from this ^^^^^^^ (toothy), to more of an edge like this --------- (straight).

it can also balance out an uneven bevel, or rolled bevel

I keep a leather strop loaded with 3 micron polishing compound, does a great job for edge maintenance.
