I saw that blue lastnight. I'm stocking up on popcorn! Jim and Kyle round 2, FIGHT! :D (read in mortal combat voice!)
I keed I keed!

I called dibs on the 1670BLKST, not the 1670BLBLKST. I want the regular serrated one cuz it will probably be the least expensive ;)

Here's how the Blur turned out. It could be better but it was my first time doing this kind of mod so It'll look better next time I do it.

oooh, pretty.

Your lansky is getting a workout tonight. Haven't got any shaving sharp edges yet, but pretty close.

Acid stonewash on that would look absolutely amazing.

Nice job though... looks fantastic.

Thanks bro:) An acid stonewash would look killer. I need to get that setup one of these days.

I'm glad it got to you safely. Hopefully you can get some nice looking edges going on pretty soon. I believe some of the rods are a bit bent though so you may want to just use one that's straight so your bevels don't change too much. Just a heads up.

Yea, I've picked 2 of the straightest rods, and set them out of the box, to reduce bending, and I've just been using those two.(not at the same time)

That's pretty awesome Will! I like it.

Mark, I know what you mean by getting good and sharp edges, just not razor sharp. I'm still working on it though. I asked about it in MT&E and I got a lot of information regarding getting a nice burr. Here's the thread I was directed to, http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/697747-The-burr. It's got a lot of information.

Thanks broman:thumbup: When the Lansky was my current sharpening system, I'd apex the edge on both sides and progress up through my desired grits and when I was done, I'd add a microbevel (AKA Tertiary bevel) with the sharpmaker. My old Para 2 would almost whittle hairs using that method.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what does "apex the edge" mean?

For the handle? I stopped at 240 for the handle. I should have gone to 400 or 600 but it took a long time to get to 240 and I was beat so I left it.

Yeah good luck with the Twitch. I took the assist out of my buddies Benchmade Warn a few few weeks ago and it was pure hell. I hate knives that have a bunch of parts. Simplicity is where it's at.

Not ignorance at all. Asking questions is a good thing. Apexing the edge is pretty much when the burr starts growing. it's when the stone hits the very end of the edge and starts to form a burr. I'm terrible at explaining things but I think that makes sense. Jdavis 882 has a bunch of extremely helpful info on sharpening. I would take a look at some if you have spare time.

I love simplicity.

That's a good description that I understand. Now I know what people mean when they say that. I should be doing a packet for Health called "Alcohol Use and Abuse", but I've got extra time.

Re-profiled my cryo to 20 on each side. (previously at around 23, so not much of a difference, but oh well) It is actually hair shaving sharp.(hurts though) I guess I just need to spend more time on the higher grade steels to get those results. The edge looks wavy? I'm guessing fault on my part, but as long as it's sharp, I'm fine with it.

What motion do you guys use when sharpening on the lansky?

its actually surprisingly easy to do. I did it to that recon 1 i was working on and it turned out amazing... i didnt do the stonewash part yet, but the acid etching part is as easy as putting your pants on.

I think I might know what you mean by the wavy edge. All of the knives I've sharpened so far have that, and I think It's because of the polishing (not sure if you have that or not), but that's why I think mine look like that. You can't actually see it if you're looking straight at it, you have to hold it up in the light. I actually don't mind, as long as It's sharp.

When I sharpen, I start by putting the stone on the blade and going up and to the right or left, depending on what side I'm sharpening. I read that just going straight up will take off more steel than what's needed. I noticed that when I start to get towards the tip more, my sharpening starts to get straighter, so I need to work on that. Also, It's a little tricky for me to sharpen when I'm using my left hand, but that's because I'm right-handed.

Let me re-phrase my sharpening motion a little bit. After I start to move the stone up the blade, I go to the right or left, again, depending on what side I'm sharpening, in more of a sweeping/swooping motion. Then, I place the stone back on the blade where I ended my sweeping/swooping motion. Then I just repeat.

Knotty, I just stropped the cryo on a thing of cardboard, and the wavy pattern has started to go away. I think a normal strop would do away with the wavy pattern. So that's what I'm going to invest in next.

I'll have to try that and see how it does. My next invest is a T6 and a T8 Torx Screwdriver by Wiha, than I'm getting something from Dave.

That knife is evil.
It took me over an hour.......and I swear to god I will never take that knife part again, I needed vice grips and clamps to get that thing back together......ahhhhhhhh but its done:thumbup:

The moral of this story is:
Don't buy or take apart sog's
