Order of KAI Official Hang Out; Good Times & Joyous Knives

No pictures today, but I'll tell you guys what we did on our last day of "vacation".

1. We got up and did the normal routine of packing everything up and eating breakfast in the hotel.

2. After that, we drove to Cabela's in Dundee, Michigan. As almost any outdoorsy type person knows, Cabela's is kind of the equivalent of a mall to a teenage girl (). We walked around a little bit and looked at some shirts and hats. Then we headed over to the "kids" section and messed around with the little kid toys. Finally, after waiting, I was able to get my mom to take us all up-stairs (mostly for me anyways) and look at the guns and knives. At first, it was kind of hard finding the knives, and I was thinking they were just going to have a little section of Kershaw and miscellaneous other branded knives like SOG and Gerber. I spotted the Kershaw's in clam-packs from a mile away and looked at those for a little bit. The clam-packs just happened to be right next to an island (like the one in your kitchen, but with glass cabinets to show things off). I glanced in the cabinet and saw some very interesting things that I wasn't expecting to see. First, I saw a couple Hogues. I'm not able to identify the exact models because I'm not really into Hogues, but I knew what they were as soon as I saw them. I admired those for a little bit and moved over to the next section, where I saw some Kershaws. They had the normal things like Leeks, Scallions, and Chives. They also had a One-Ton and a Tension. I skipped over those and looked more closely into the cabinets, when I saw a Griptilian. I've been kind of eyeing a Griptilian for awhile and decided I couldn't pass up the opportunity to at least hold one. I put that on the "to hold list" and looked in the cabinet some more, when I saw a Spyderco. It was a half-serrated Delica. That immediately peaked my interest and that went on the "to hold list". Unfortunately, we had to wait at least 10 minutes for an employee to realize that we were waiting to be tended to, and that's when the nerves started to build-up. I've never been into other companies, because I wasn't really familiar with them, but that unfamiliarity went away as soon as I held the Griptilian and the Delica. Sorry to cheat on Kershaw a little bit, but I was blown away, and I don't really know why. I'll be spending just a little bit more time in the Spyderco and Benchmade sub-forums. Oh yeah, when I was admiring the Griptilian, my mom didn't really want the whole ordeal to be silent and me just being in awe the whole time, so she asked what the blade was made out of, and the employee literally said, and this isn't a joke, he said "uhh.....probably stainless". I wanted to laugh so hard, but I held my cool. The blade was made out of 154CM.

3. After Cabela's, my mom really wanted to show us Lake Erie, so we drove a little bit more so she could show us. I had already been in Lake Erie, walleye fishing, but didn't catch anything. We got there and walked around on the beach a little bit and played around on the playground. Obviously, my mom wanted to take pictures, so we took a few and left towards the American Coney Island in Detroit.

4. The American Coney Island is a hot dog place that had an episode with Adam Richmond, the guy from Man V. Food. We found a place to park that was actually pretty close to the building and proceeded to enter the building and sit down. The inside didn't look all "spiffy", but it was a lot nicer than the surrounding buildings. We ordered drinks and looked at the menu for a minute. The amount of time it took for our food to arrive at our table was amazing. From the time we ordered, to the time our food hit our table, it was about 5 minutes. WAYYYY better than fast food, and a lot better tasting. I ordered a chili cheese dog, fries, and a root beer. Overall, it was pretty cool.

5. After lunch, my mom wanted to take us to a place called "Greektown". It's a little place kind of in the middle of Detroit that has very narrow streets and a lot of buildings crammed together. It's actually a pretty cool place to walk down. She wanted to take us to a pastry/bakery shop and get something sweet to eat. I ordered a giant cinnamon roll. It was delicious. After that, we walked back through the bad parts of Detroit and drove home.

That's the end of my vacation.

First of all, good luck Jim!

And knotty, sounds like you had a good time! And I think you would love a griptilan/delica great knives if you ask me:thumbup:

I'll have to agree, though I don't have any experience with bm's 154cm. And the Delica is nice too

Benchmade Grips are Awesome
I was a little bit hesitant because I've heard bad things about people not liking the plastic grips, but I could care less if they're plastic. I was also very anxious to try out the AXIS Lock, and well, I love it. It makes closing the blade so easy, and It's really smooth. I was expecting a little bit of resistance, and I didn't really feel any with this model.

You could always do what I did........make a $100 knife a $200 knife :p

I had a mini-grip but it was those dern plastic handles that I didn't care for. Ended up selling it.

Same for you

I like BM's 154-CM so far, my mini onslaught holds a edge nicely....also you could get it in D2 or S30V.

Or M4, if you're special.:D
that Griptilian was the second knife I bought. Crazy huh? first knife I buy is around $60. My second is $110
And then the slippery slope.......

I need a Grip!!!!! I'm looking at the basic model on BladeHQ's website. Nothing special about it, but I want it!!

Whats the big deal with knife lanyards? I have never understood them. It just gets in the way...

Any of you bros carry your knives with lanyards?

I do when the knife has a deep carry clip...makes it easier to get out of the pocket (there's not much to grab onto without one)

Night guys! (Also Thanks for the link Mark!)

I like lanyards on knives with deep-carry clips, like the Cryo. Lanyards make it easier to extract the knife from the pocket.

Also, thanks for the link Mark.

I do, whenever my knife has a decent sized lanyard hole, which Kershaw doesn't do often.

Dont you ever worry about it getting caught on things? Im really OCD about things, and I couldn’t stand having a little lanyard thing hanging out of my pocket.
