When I first started sharpening I would have said no. Sharpening can be one of the most frustrating things in the world. However now that I have a firm grasp. Yes I enjoy it. I like to play Jazz or old style music while I sharpen. Just get lost in my own thoughts.

I do the same thing with music and sharpening. I listen to (You guessed it) Whoracle by In Flames. I really dreaded the thought of having to sharpen my knives back when I only had a Sharpmaker. Now that I have an EP I really enjoy seeing how sharp I can get my knives. It's quite therapeutic actually.

That edge looks great Steele! The wicked edge does not cost 700 dollars. I think you can get a basic one for like 285 or something like that. I would really like to get one evn though I already have the Edge Pro just for that extra bit of precision.

:foot: Sorry I was thinking of something else. That number was stuck in my head for some reason.

The Wicked Edge is nice because its very easy to re-create your bevels EXACTLY when you want to touch up your knife. I also like how you can work on both sides of the edge simultaneously. Really allows you to keep the bevel nice and centered. The only one that is $700 is the Pro-Pack II which comes with EVERY stone and stropping compound plus ceramic stones and leather strops. I bought the basic kit and I think thats the way to go unless you KNOW you'll buy everything in the pro-pack anyway. If you do get the basic kit, dont bother buying a wicked edge base. You can make your own for much less than the WE branded ones.

but what makes it so superior? i get my knives just as sharp with my lansky, and stones are smaller, which makes me able to do smaller knives, and recurve knives. I dont see how one could sharpen even a blur with a wicked edge... kitchen knives, bigger knives, wicked edge or edge pro would be great, but the stones are like 1", would never touch a mini mojo, even a zt with a recurve would be a pain

You can sharpen blurs pretty easily with the WEPS/EP. My blur was sharpened with a wicked edge (I believe a little bit of the recurve might have altered but not much). You can also get half inch stones and rounded stones for recurves.

I'm not saying a wicked edge will get you sharper edges it just is very user friendly and very precise. You can create a micro bevel or even double micro bevel if you so choose and be able to touch up that edge without any guess work or ruining your bevels. Its a bit difficult to sharpen recurves but I found that if you use the corner edge of the stones, you can do it without a problem. Plus, as Will said, you can get special stones for recurves.

Ok, i guess id have to try it to see for myself. I really like lansky because i can sit in my chair and sharpen while watching TV

If you go to any bigger Knife shows, Clay Allison (the owner of Wicked Edge) usually has a table there and sharpens knives for free. Im sure he'd let you give it a go on one of your own blades. You do need a base for it but if you have a table, you can definitely still watch TV while working on it. Once you get the motion down, its a piece of cake.

Thanks bud! I would like a WE too. I just want to wait until they offer lower angles.

I didn't even know such a thing existed as a knife club lol. Where i live is fairly rural, where if is not an old timer or case, "it ain't a knife".
