I have a 0550BLK blem that I got from Dave and I have intentionally tried to permanently damage the coating on the blade. I figured that it is a blem and is meant to be abused since it had "something" wrong with it. (No, I couldn't find the blemish and I know Thomas wishes the blems were never released)

The point is that if I had a blade from any company and tape took the coating off, that is a problem within the manufacturing process and the manufacturer should fix it....unless it is a blem. :) If BM or any other company fought too much about it beyond normal "What did you do to it?" questions, I would wonder about their customer service. I agree with Mario, I seriously doubt this would happen with KAI.
 
No, it simply isn't. I will bet money that if you had a blade whose coating just randomly came off with tape on a Kershaw knife (itself unlikely as they use DLC and PVD coatings), they would repair or replace it with a minimum of fuss. Likely, with no questions asked.

Once again, yes it most likely is. because under the warranty it says coatings are not covered under warranty. (or something close to that) if I called them and said my coating peeled off with tape, they'd say something like "sorry, but the blade's coating isn't covered under our warranty. Do you want to purchase a replacement blade?"
But also remember it's a judgment call for the person you're talking to. Some may say it isn't covered under warranty, some others might pursue it further and get a higher up's opinion.
 
And you also forgot, it was an LE knife. BM probably went father than Kershaw. Kershaw would've most likely let me pick a replacement knife of same value from their catalog.
Benchmade replaced the blade, and laser etched it exactly like the old one for free.

And I'll add something else. Getting a replacement blade for free wasn't an issue, that would've been easy peesy. It was getting my LE number on it that was the issue.

Never, has it come back unfixed or unreplaced. I actually checked my bank statement the month I send in the 0550 for the snapped blade, and they didn't even charge me for the replacement blade. Perhaps a fluke, perhaps just kindness.

As for the LE issue, I can't personally speak to that. However if BM did all that for you, then grats on them. It does nothing to discount the service I and others have gotten and continue to get from Kai that quickly eviscerates your presuppositions of their refusal to warranty a knife.

Frankly, I'm not sure why we're even having this discussion. The only customer service and warranty that tops Kai, that I've ever experienced, was Leatherman. Yes, I've had plenty of warranty experience with Benchmade; experiences that give reason to the presence of not one Benchmade in my collection. Like I said, I'm glad they did good by you. I hope that your future experiences with them are equally as amicable.

I never tried to discount any service you've gotten from Kai. Only one discounting service is you.

I was never moody at you. I was however pissed at Gino. And someone else agrees with me that during Gino's presence, that the attitude around here got extremely crappy.

I'm not going to attack him further. Just saying I was pissed at him, and I personally thought he was a negative influence. I'm not going into details or anything. Nothing really to defend, because like I said, I'm not going onto details.
