Order of KAI Official Hang Out; Part Deux - It's Enrico Palazzo!

Good to know. :) I don't remember the numbers, but I can say that it's likely thicker behind the edge than the Para 2. I'll measure it tonight if I remember, I think it's a 0.034 or something like that.

On the video thing, have you considered getting a more featured video editor? What are you using now?
I should invest in video editing software. I just drop the video file out onto the desktop and then upload it :D.

I think you said the 0600 was around .034 on my video. I would be a tad surprised if the 0801 was just because it is thinner than the 0600. Eh, doesn't really matter though.

So have I...it will be my last purchase of the year. I still have a few discontinued knives I want to get first though.

I am just going to get the basic package with a mounting base. I have strops, and ceramics to finish the edge out the rest of the way. Then I will buy the second gen mounting base so I can go down to 13* per side.

I plan on doing the same thing, I just can't spend $400/$700...$275 is a lot but not too much so that's what I've getting.

dude, buy the pro kit, its cheaper in the long run. the 1000 grit stones are worth it.

Like I said, I have my own ceramics (Spyderco). I may upgrade in time. I have no problems getting a sharp edge. I just like the fact it will handle re-beveling the edge well. And keep a constant angle. Plus I have some high wear steels coming, and the diamonds will be a big help.

Take my word, diamond scratches the edge like crazy, you will thank me if u get the 1k stones. Otherwise ur trying to remove 600 grit scratches with a ceramic, by hand..... You will hate urself lol

Will uses it to good effect. I like that it can go to much lower angles too. I like that the Wicked Edge clamps the blade in place.

yeah i know, i’d prefer a clamp system though. Its tough trying to keep a blades consistently steady on the edge pro. The WE takes most of the guess work out of sharpening.

im sure if I sat down and learned all the little tricks and tips to the Edge pro, it’d be a great system.

I'm not afraid :p. I will do a video just for you greeeenie :D. I will get the ceramics at some point probably.

I hear that complaint a lot... I love my wicked edge, but i use a piece of paper between the clamp and the blade. It holds a bit better and prevents any damage or marks on the blade face

Did you buy the Angle Cube?

no, but i want to. I know my WE isnt the same side to side. Its off by at least a degree side to side, i can see it at the tip

I actually finish on either the 600 or 800 grit, now that they've been worn in. It took about 25-30 knives for them to smooth out, but the 800 looks closer to the 1000 when it was new. That being said, greenie's right, as the 600 grit looked pretty rough for the first 20 knives. I wouldn't have finished on that at all back then. Also, since the 100 grit stones have worn in, they aren't as abrasive as they used to be, and I just got the 50/80 grits a few days ago. I'll be breaking those in on Manny's old Tenacious and some other things before they touch a higher end piece.

I had the Edge Pro for a while...probably just short of a year. It was pretty good, and got great edges, but nothing like the Wicked Edge. The WE isn't foolproof though, and I went in under that assumption and jacked up two knives before I got through the learning curve. However, it's a minor curve and if you go slowly, you'll find out what works and what doesn't. I'm very very happy with the WE, and wouldn't go back to anything else. It's a great reprofiling tool, and a great sharpener. I still touch up on the Sharpmaker, and when I see the microbevel getting a bit thicker, I go back on the WE and freshen it all up in a few minutes.

It's worth buying, and I agree with greenie that the Pro Pack is worth it. I personally say get the Pro Pack 1, as the 2 is a bit much, and I've been getting along fine with the 1. You can actually just flip the arm joints around to the non-graduated side to get finer adjustment. If you tighten them down with a small rag, you can get them tight enough so that they do not move. I find however that the single degree graduations are best, since once I set the bevel, it's easier to reproduce without an infinitely adjustable joint.

Btw, the 0801 is still effing awesome. It cuts soooooo much!

You know, you'd be surprised how often it's the edge that's just offset. I find that more often than not, the angles are pretty close despite the clamp offset. It ends up being that the difference in thickness of the bevel is the edge being off-center, which you can fix over time if you just sharpen one side.

There is also the fact that alot of production knives, and customs for that matter, are not the exact same thickness on each side of the grind. So if you have what is basically exact angles, on freehanded grinds that will vary a little. It will show in your edge.

not once have i had a perfect edge side to side, one side is always bigger.... really would like to have an angle cube.
