Ordered my first Blind Horse

I have a Blind Horse Bushcrafter and while I find the handle very comfortable, the blade stock is REALLY thick, for my uses anyway, don't know if that matters to you or not.... (I believe it's 5/32")

I nearly hit buy when I received the email about the Bush Pig, but have too many folders ordered :D

Congrats, it looks like a terrific knife! I found the Camp Muk to be very handy, well, around camp!

Thanks!!
I can't wait, I've overlooked Blind Horse knives for quite a while, I think it's about time I check one out first hand, Hopefully I won't like it too much, I'm trying to "cut" back a little on knife buying.:)

My Brumby and Scaatycrafter are loose in the sheath, the Scaatycrafter will not come out by itself if hung upside down though, but the Brumby does after a little shake. Both sheaths are deep, but not overtly so. I put a fob on the Brumby, and I use it most every day for mundane chores. I don't have any trouble drawing it, but I don't carry it on my belt, usually in a back pocket.

I originally ordered the Scaaty, traded it, and got it back from the guy I traded it to . Anyway, I put a wrist thong lanyard on that, and it comes out fine. Both would come out fine without a lanyard.

I need to wet form the Brumby's sheath to make it a little tighter, might do that this weekend.

I have my eye on a Scaaty as well but I'll wait until I receive my Bush Pig.

Nice choice, I also ordered one of these specials. It can't get here fast enough

This is a pic of my Blind Horse Bushcrafter (when it was new)

It was not inexpensive, but I consider it a good value. To me value is more important than price by itself. I really love this knife and I think would be hard pressed to find a knife of the same materials and workmanship for a better price. To me it was worth every penny.

I love this picture!!!!

I don't mind thicker blades, I feel more free to really use it without fear of breakage.

I am very pleased with my lil muk that my wife gave me for christmas. BHK makes a great product.

The BH woodsman pro is made with 01 steel and the bark river bravo 1 is made with a2 steel. They look about the same in thickness but which is the better steel?

I'm not sure that one is "better" than the other. They are both very good carbon tool steels, and either will serve well. I would let the other differences between the two knives make your decision in this case - ergonomics, blade profile, etc.

Got mine in today, first impressions.....

The handle is fantastic, not an understatement, maybe my favorite of any knife. The micarta is in matte finish.

Full convex on such a wide blade makes it cut ver well, a real slicer. Carves wood better than my BHK Bushcrafter.

I like the blade shape but not in love either. If I could modify it right now I'd clip the spine to give it more of a point. Plan to use it more before even thinking of doing anything though.

I opted for the snap sheath rather than the new one they unveiled with the special.

All in all I like it quite a bit so far.

Hard to go wrong with BHK IMHO. I'm really fond of their O1, it's just really impressed me a great deal, it takes a dark patina, has very good edge retention, it's darn tough to boot, and pretty easy to sharpen. About all I can ask for out of an ordinary, mundane, blade steel. It's all it's cracked up to be and then some. I experienced this steel through a Lg Tiger Knaap. An excellent bare bones, fixed blade for the minimalist. Skinned a beaver with it, and it still would pop hair afterwards.....

My first

I have ordered a Frontier Valley in a scandi
It is on its way to me now.....

Arrived
Excellent little knife
Arrived very sharp
A comfortable user
The handle is very comfortable
The spine is very sharp for fire steels, but too sharp after the handle where my thumb sits
And in a very fast time my thumb has gotten sore with normal use
(I have other knives where the spine by the handle is rounded, but square and sharp towards the tip for fire steels)

I ordered the knife with the snap flap sheath, and an extra neck sheath
Both sheaths are very high quality
All in all a very good value knife

I have ordered from Down Under and found them to be top notch. Communication was great and their product is top quality. Just nice guys, really.

It looks even better than I expected, I am still waiting.
Did you receive a shipping notice or did it just show up?

Sorry about that neeman!
From left to right: boattail scandi, maverick colt, frontier first in D2, small Tiger knapp, frontier valley, small workhorse, large Snapp knapp

pertinux - I'll try to get a sheath shot later today :)
Smithhammer - those elk vittles look good!

I see you like smaller knives

Could you comment on the Maverick Colt?

How is it to use
What is the handle like
Is it comfortable

Thanks

Neeman - I really like the Colt - nice small size for easy carry, but the blade is big enough for most of my uses.
I can *just* get a four finger grip on the handle (I wear a size large glove). If I could do it again though, I would have ordered the bead blasted micarta over the polished. (I may attempt to rough it up myself, not sure yet, but Blind Horse will also perform this service, I believe free of charge)
And while I do like the handle, I think I prefer the more ergonomic shape of the Small Workhorse and the Patch knives.
Another thing I like about it is the blade stock is nice and thin, makes for a great slicer. 3/32" IIRC, thinner than all my other Blind Horse knives.
The Colt really reminds me of a nice little paring knife, and it performs admirably in this role, but it's great for other stuff as well. I've probably used it most for whittling/tent stakes/garden stakes, and it's great for this too, very comfortable for extended use. I almost wish I had gotten one of the scandi ground ones, since I use it on wood so much....maybe someday.
I think my favorite Blind Horse are the Snapp Knapps though. VERY comfortable for a knife with no scales, and very comfortable in pocket too.
Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the information, that helps me make up my mind

I will order the Colt in scandi ground

A few more BHK's:

Their MUK is a solid, powerhouse of a knife. I love the way it feels in the hand. For folks who think the Nessmuk designs are limited to skinning and slicing, I would recommend trying one of these:

The Bushbaby:

And I recently placed an order for one of these - a new design they're offering, called the "Clipper." Basically BHK's interpretation of the classic Sharpfinger, in a saber grind and D2, w/stag and red liners:

BHK is making fantastic knives for the price, imo.

I do like that clipper. The thumb ramp must allow some great control.
