The LB is fine! You do have one of mine coming from Justin, when a custom with an orange scale arrives, thats the one! :D

Awesome Troop, thanks for getting right on it. So that is the standard blade profile, only thing you requested was the handle material/color and the satin finish? Looks great.

I'm the second owner of this fine piece. All I did was thin the edge. That is the standard blade profile.

Troop, does it come with a satin finish by default, or did you special order that? I prefer a satin finish on my blades, and really like the design of that RD4. Thanks.

Pitdog or anyone that can answer. If you had the standard 1/4 inch RD4 thinned to 3/16, does the 3/16 thickness extend to and include the entire tang or just the blade:confused:

The satin blades need to be ordered special from Justin. Like most people around here, I'm real picky about knife designs, material, geometry, etc. etc, but this RD-4 is great.

Entire tang. But you could request either way!

If you requested 3/16" ( which I would prefer ) Justin would use 3/16" stock steel to make the knife thus the tang etc would all be the same. To thin a 1/4" stock down would be very time consuming and really raise the cost !!!

I was just looking at his site in another window on my PC LOL...great minds think alike. Although I was lookin' at the 7.:D I expect a full review.

Thanks guys, I think 3/16 is enough for a knife the size of the RD4, just might have to try one out.

Depends on your use. If you are really going to pound on it, and put it through the paces, then go with the 1/4". That's why Justin makes them standard at 1/4".

Completely agree with Troop. I've been hammering the point of my RD4 in a thick log (about 0.5" ), and tried to bend it to one side. All that happened was the wood to come loose, and give a lot of splinters and kindling.....:D The RD4 didn't feel anything. I would go with 1/4" thickness. It might be a bit heavy at moments (getting tired in your wrist and fingers) when doing fine small work, but overall this knife is just fantastic. I think the RD6 is more a general campknife. It's even better at splitting wood....:D The RD4 is more of a survival/bushcraft type of knife. Anyway, both are super overbuild strong great knives.

My fully customized RD-4 (full flat grind, maroon micarta, satin finsh, etc.) was 125 US. Just in case any of you wanted an estimate.
