ORDERS ARE CLOSED! 2023 BladeForums.com Traditional Knife.

YOU'RE WELCOME FOR THE $6.90 DONATION TO YOUR PAINT CHIP FUND.

Are you sorting by serial number so they go out by order number? Seems like extra work vs. just random shipping, but kind of interesting to see where we all ended up in the order list.
If true, who's going to be brave enough to try for #600?

Half the fun with the serial numbers is getting whatever random number you get and trying to find some connection/meaning.

Status update:

GEC is tubing up the knives right now and will be shipping shortly. Once I have possession, I will be sorting by serial number and will start getting them out the door. If there are any issues that will, of course, cause delays.

I've received a couple dozen "I fucked up my address" "I ordered two" "I ate paint chips" "I'm curious about [whatever]" emails.

CANCELLATIONS:
If you need to cancel for whatever reason, cool. Reply to your paypal receipt with "CANCEL" in the title and I will refund ASAP.

WRONG ADDRESSES:
If you've screwed up your address, you need to fix it in Paypal. I will not ship to an address not on the Paypal payment as that will screw me if the knife goes missing. GET YOUR ADDRESSES CORRECTED AND SEND ME AN EMAIL WITH "WRONG ADDRESS" in the title; I'll get you refunded ASAP.

SALES TAX:

If you were charged sales tax (first 100 or so), mea culpa. If you want it refunded, reply to the paypal receipt with "SALES TAX REFUND" in the title. If you don't care, no worries, thank you for understanding that I am brain damaged and ate paint chips + possibly am quite dumb.

INTERNATIONAL ORDERS:
I am talking with Charlie, Paris, et al regarding this. We'll get it figured out.

Heads up, there will be a PRICE INCREASE AFTER THE KNIVES GET HERE
The preorder price is the preorder price. If there are any left after the knives get here, it's no longer a pre order. If you are biding your time, don't wait long.

Thank you for offering the sales tax refund Spark Spark keep mine and please have a 🍻 on me!

I am surprised, actually but looking at it now I did post a bit 21(!!!) years ago.

My wallet retracts its gratitude and is now quite unhappy.

Lol...what is they say about being careful what you wish for?

GEC always means lots of sudden interest. For many this will be the only GEC knife they can comfortably order, with no stress on missing THE drop.

Maybe it should be 100+ posts in this sub-forum in the past year, with any posts in this thread not counting towards those 100.

For most it is easy to make 25, useful, posts in a few days, so I do not understand why there needs to be spamming behaviour.

Despite the worries, like last year, there are plenty of knives to go around. The true price is also higher, since you have to pay for membership to get it, thus it makes it less interesting for someone that buys just to re-sell or "catch and release"
That would probably just bring a lot of the following in the first 2 months:
HI. post:
I like that knife. Post:
Hope I can get one. Post:
Bye. Cya in a bit. Post......

just put the tourists on ignore, out of sight, out of mind. its the same thing i do when i find a flipper or trade extorter in the f/s section. I know they accuse us of gate keeping, but i have no idea why people chase a club knife for a club they are not an active part of.
..kinda answered your own question...

Because some people have no conception of their own self worth beyond what possessions they can accumulate.

When they acquire something "special" or "exclusive" they then feel, albeit fleetingly, a little more special themselves. Once the dopamine hit wears off, they're quickly back to feeling like their usual old and "worthless" selves, which leads to another hunt for something "rare" and "precious." And on and on it goes - with most folks never pausing to address where the negative thoughts about themselves originate in the first place - as that quest is viewed as potentially frightening or uncomfortable.

If they could replace the accumulation cycle with a creative cycle, and develop some personally rewarding skills, ie whittling, bushcraft, knife making, leather working, etc; then they may be able to cultivate a firmer foundation on which to build a new concept of their self worth.

Until then, the cycle of chasing ever diminishing dopamine hits will continue until such a point is reached that they no longer are able to derive the desired feelings from their current endeavor and are forced to find a new arena to participate in.

They have probably convinced themselves that they're not doing it for the reasons stated, and are actually doing it for financial gain, which is nothing more than the same accumulation cycle with a more abstract object. This explains why happy people are not always wealthy, and why wealthy people are not always happy.

I don't put them on mute, as for me, they serve as a beneficial reminder of where not to tread and where my focus and priorities should rest.

True. Anything GEC used to get me ramped up. For most of my knife collecting life (which has taken long breaks periodically), quality hand made slipjoints like GEC's were the holy grail. Then I realized I had a closet full of tubed slipjoints and it dawned on me, to other posters' points, that my life wasn't any better. Heck, I wasn't even carrying them so it was just more things collecting dust in the dark. It wasn't until I saw my own posts from 2002 that I remembered even back then I was a nut for these. My FOMO and excitement over a GEC that is actually accessible have subsided. Others more worthy (or thirsty) can have the one I may have purchased.

theres better ways to make money, why ruin other people's hobby

Ive seen the flipper groups, they love to ruin others’ fun. Besides making money, having taken what someone else badly wants to enjoy is the main motivation. They actively WANT to ruin the fun. Thats what drives the market up and makes them able to flip for more money. They dont care about the knives/craftsmanship/community/collecting. Its all about getting that drop so others can cry about it.

This is why I pulled the last of my GEC's from the For Sale forum. Flipper claimed my #15 in like 3 minutes so I just cancelled the sale and will hold them myself.

Shoot me a link to the flipper groups, I'll ruin some fun

I've seen some bubbles burst in my lifetime.

The beanie-baby bubble, the pog bubble, the tickle-me Elmo bubble, the US-housing market bubble, and more.

Value fluctuates over time and I've found that if I really want something and am patient enough, I'll probably be able to pick it up for a song eventually.

If things go right, or wrong, enough - the flippers will probably be willing to trade all their knives for a single loaf of bread. 😊
