Oregon Knife Collectors Association Knife Show April 13th - 14th Eugene, Or

I didn't take a lot of photos, and I didn't get to stay as long as I would have liked, but it was great to see some familiar faces, and to meet some new ones ( btb01 btb01 ).

The highlight of the show for my oldest daughter (the eponymous Abby) was when Charlie gave her an beautiful knife that matched her shirt! She is still pretty over the moon about that knife.

My only purchases at the show were a trio of USA made official BSA knives in the classic scout pattern (since they are not being currently produced anywhere in the classic pattern with BSA branding as far as I can tell). I like to have a stockpile for my annual Giveaway, and these were all solid condition users for future giving.

And then, in no particular order, here are some of my favorite knives that I saw at the show. I was mostly picking ones I thought my 7 year old son would like to try to tempt him to come this year. My son is pretty neurospicy (as my wife likes to put it), and he was having too much anxiety about going anywhere to make it to this year's show. So I wanted to bring some fun knife images back to him. I've made the images small, but if you click on them I think you can see them full size.

Those daggers with the Widmanstatten patterned meteorite blades were just an astounding standout at the show for me. So extraordinarily (extraplanetarily) cool.

I also want to point out the little lockback with the carbon fiber scales. It doesn't look particularly special in my photo, but I found it utterly magnetic in person. It caught my eye from about 30 feet away, and I loved it. If I had the money to spend, I would have snapped it up. I often say that I will probably never actually _NEED_ another knife if I live to be 300 years old, but ooh baby did I _WANT_ that one.

Its very true to form for waynorth waynorth , several rendezvous back we used to kid about the kid that showed up at Charlie's table when he set up inside. He got his first free nice knife courtesy of Charlie. The little box of goodies had something for everyone, and Charlie kept it to true knife tradition, aint cost more than a simple coin, which the child's father provided. 🤣 god we got a kick out of that the next year when he came to the table and got another!

I’ll preface this post by saying that I did a terrible job taking pictures this weekend, but I did get a couple here and there, so what you get is what you get. 😁

I had a great time at the Oregon show — not only my first time at the show, but my first time in the state of Oregon! It was awesome getting to meet up in person with so many folks I’ve known online for years, and while the weekend really felt like it flew by, I’m grateful for the amount of time I got to spend at the show browsing knives and, even better, talking with old and new friends.

Saturday was definitely busy!

There were some cool displays at the show (and, of course, I didn’t take pics of most of them). I thought this one with countertop knife displays was really interesting.

Here’s @knowtracks impressive Schatt & Morgan display. In addition to having a great collection, Dave is a lot of fun to talk with.

I bought a couple knives on Saturday, an older Opinel and a Camillus What-A-Knife (I can’t ever pass one of those up for a reasonable price).

And Charlie gave me this beautiful Opinel in Black Palm wood! Thank you again, Charlie!

Getting to see and handle this knife was absolutely a highlight of the show, and I enjoyed talking with @Rhidian about some of the processes that went into making it.

All in all I had a great time in Oregon. Thanks to @herder for finally talking me into going. I think I’m going to have to come back next year!

Just a couple pics from around town.

The Story!!
I didn't buy many knives at Oregon this year, but I could not pass up this collection!!!
It turns out Mac collected Harness Jacks before I did!! A bunch appeared on a site called "Vintage Knives" in about 2004, and I was buying them like crazy from Billy, the site's owner! I found out on Saturday that they were coming from a Guy named "Mac", who has been following my HJ story since the beginning!! He showed up in Oregon, and offered me the last of his diminished collection - five knives - in a handmade leather roll!! So here I am buying knives, HJs, again, from the same guy, 20 years later!! What a happening for me!! And for "Mac"!!!
We chatted for over an hour, sitting behind my table, and that was the best part!!

Glad to see you are adding some back!!

Ha ha!!! And that wasn't his last one either!!! 😂

Thanks Charlie  I cannot recall just how many times I have revisited that post and looked at those amazing Harness Jacks! That Robeson is quite that part as well - what a group!
Love seeing Ol' Boiley appear.

Jack, Paul and I are mentioned officially the other day that 2025 is definitely the plan, I think I have about close to half saved so far, then spending money on Knives- 20 to 30 Thousand 🤣:thumbsup:🤣

that sounds promising!!! i think ill be taking the scenic route well depending on how my other travel plans go. you saving up for that deluxe suite for you and paul? 🤣

Oh how I wish I had that sort of money to go spending!
Jack - The last room that Paul and I shared had a Air Conditioner that made more noise than a Old Diesel Tractor - it was not a good room - real dark - in fact we joked that there could be a serial killer standing in the corner and we’d never know!
When you walked on the carpet your feet stuck to it 😂 Yeah not good.
But a few folks had a gathering at Dave’s room one night and he was in a different block - and his room was great! 🤣

Good looking bunch of harness jacks, Charlie.

Ahem!!
I did buy another knife also!! This one won Best Miniature Knife for Rhidian!!!
3 cm long (just over 1 inch!!), it's no ordinary Barlow!! It has Mammoth Handles, and a Damascus Blade and Spring!!!View attachment 2551657View attachment 2551658
Tony Bose R.I.P, made a peanut, and vowed he'd never make such a small knife again!!! 😂

That’s great that you ended up with Rhidian’s tiny Barlow! Makes old Boily look like a big granddaddy barlow! 😁

Sorry I missed you, Barrett. For some reason, I didn't connect the dots in terms of expecting you. I was only able to spend a couple of hours at the show on Saturday. We broke for lunch and then I couldn't return due to my wife's mother heading to the hospital with a heart attack. She is well, but it cut my visit short and I was unable to catch everyone for goodbyes.

Highlight of the show for me is always connecting to online friends, meeting new ones, and putting faces to names. Of course, seeing Rhidian again with his amazing work is becoming an annual highlight all its own. I can't wait to hear how well that Marbles style folding hunter does at Blade Show this year - it truly is a spectacular piece in ever sense of the word. The craftsmanship, the beautiful materials, and the attention to detail; all simply out of this world. His awards are all well deserved.

Sorry, Dylan, I probably should have reached out to you before the show to see when you would be there. Neal and I left for a bit around lunchtime on Saturday to head to the post office and mail knives back to ourselves, sounds like that might have been around the time you were there. Sorry to hear about your wife’s mom, glad to hear she’s doing ok!

I enjoyed getting to see that exchange!

Barrett, I have never seen the black Palm Handled Opinel before - So so Generous of Charlie  Very Handsome Knife!

Thanks, Duncan. I love Opinels, even bought a couple older ones at the show (and sadly missed out on a big No. 13 that I should’ve bought when I first saw it). The black palm is really unique, the wood has a ton of character, and the fact that it was a gift from Charlie makes it even better!:thumbsup:

aCcSfLx.jpg
The back facing us with the blue sweater, and black beret is Mac the HJ guy!!!
He sat there with a big grin on his face for quite a while!!

I wondered if that might be him.

Paul and I are mentioned officially the other day that 2025 is definitely the plan, I think I have about close to half saved so far, then spending money on Knives- 20 to 30 Thousand 🤣:thumbsup:🤣

If that’s the case, I’m definitely going back next year! 😁

Oh my! 😳🤣 We did an Airbnb this year, which was great!

A couple more pics of the room. Taken on Friday during setup. There were a significant number of empty tables on Friday. Most of them filled up on Saturday. I also have pictures of all of the displays, which I will eventually post. However, I have switched to using Imgur to post and it takes a little longer.

The fellow who had the Sunday knife display dismantled that one and now has a great display of Greenhough knives. He has 20 of the original 43 knives from the exhibition collection which won the 1879 Cutlers Fair, in London.

I didnt scroll all the way down at first, for a minute I thought it was Charlies hand and how well he kept them and was wearing the same colour jumper by coincidence. 😁

The knives I purchased at the show
Four pearl handled Keen Kutters, a whittler and three lobsters. I will post more description and pictures in the Keen Kutter thread.

Two more Keen Kutters. A cocabolo easy opener, stamped EC Simmons with a Keen Kutter etch, and a bone whittler. I purchased the easy open from Charlie and it is the highlight of my purchases.

Two Case peanuts, a bone USA era and a more modern yellow one. One is for the cat sitter and one for my wife.

A beautiful white bone C.C. Rider, also purchased from Charlie.

Very nice, very but I would advise against sitting on cats (so would they). 🤭

Wonderful posts EVERYONE!

Such a delight to read, Dan- your Keen Kutters you picked up were indeed that top of the line that your looking for, but I too join you in the weak legged moment in seeing that wonderful Easy Opener - That just ticks every single box you can imagine!

Such a nice, old etch!! I thought of you the minute I saw it last year, Dan!!
Thank you again, Charlie. I am very appreciative.

Thanks John. I can't even get close to my wife's cat, let alone sit on it. Sometimes I don't get your sense of humor?

Thanks Duncan.

Sorry bud,

we take a literal statement and deliberetly take it the wrong way for comic effect (hopefully).

You said "cat sitter",I sat on my cat once by accident it didnt go well for me. 😅

Like when someone said to me how do you keep an idiot in suspense?

I said I dont know.

He said I will tell you tomorrow. 🤣 🤣 🤣

This might help understand, the cat probably comes under a pun.

We dont realise we are doing it ourselves most of the time.
