Oregon knife Show

You left coast guys have fun. Wish I could shoot across the country but the G6 is in the shop.
Seriously, have fun and try to stop drooling for a minute and take some pics.

Did not get any pics, but day one is in the books. It is going to be really good. Hard to imagine how many good tables there are here!

I just pulled into Eugene, ready for action tomorrow!
Someone asked about show etiquette - the main rule is don't interfere with a potential sale in progress, go look at other stuff and come back later when the vendor isn't busy.

I will be in line at 0800 with roller skates and elbow pads on:D

Got pics, but I can't figure out how to post them from my phone...

It was nice to meet you today and thank you for showing me some of your selection and showing me those Canal Street knives. I'm going to have to pick one of those up at some point that one with the camel bone scales is the one I can't get out of my head lol. I really loved that one and the #33 Ebony Conductor you had with the other blade and right now I'm drawing a blank as to what that blade shape is called right now! Not the pen blade but the more angled straight edged blade. You guys were all very friendly and a pleasure to talk with.

Stop by table U-2!!

Thank you for the freebie! :) It was truly a pleasure to meet you in person and learn about some of the different patterns and methods of making your scales your own. I have to say I'm so new to traditional knives that I didn't realize until later on after I left and was thinking about everything you said that your the one that actually had the run of Tom's Choice Barlows made by GEC! Felt pretty dumb and even more bummed now that I didn't take you up on your offer. :) Your a great guy though and I'm glad to have met you in person. I will be more prepared next year and have more cash on me and I will be buying a knife or 2 from you. Hope you have a safe trip back home.

I purchased two knives from Buck Knives (Joe Houser) at 50% off. Sadly, Spyderco was not selling anything. Overall the 38th OKCA knife show was excellent. Spent 5-hours walking past all 360 tables.

I also purchased two US silver Peace Dollars.:D

Talked to Bram Frank the "Father of Israeli knife fighting." and Blade Hall of Fame Wayne Goddard.

Oh, funny picture!

I sure hope you can figure it out soon. Please don't give up. :)

Sounds like a coping blade:

The above is on a Conductor whittler (three blades), but there were some two-blade Conductors made with a clip main and a coping secondary.

I'm so glad you had that opportunity!

(Don't feel bad, though I can understand your disappointment at not making the connection in time. Somehow, we fell down on the job here. Get 'im next year!)

Thanks for the reports.

Anyone get a picture of Charlie with his tunafish sandwich Boily and/or other barlows, or Derrick with a Northwoods or six?

Was that Joe Hauser at the Buck Booth? I bought a blemished 55 from a fellow there, but I'm embarrassed to admit I didn't catch his name.

I got to meet okbohn and waynorth as well, which was a pleasure in both cases, of course. And the knife opener Charlie gave me might just be the handiest tool I had no idea I needed. Not only is it the only surefire way to open the nailbreaker pen blade on one of the jacknives I bought, it's also the perfect size to wrap a paper towel around and stick down in those channels to clean out crud.

It was a good time, but I suspect my knife-knut level is still too low to appreciate it fully. I think if I were into fixed blades, I'd still be there, wandering around in a euphoric daze. Similarly if I was a knifemaker I'd be googly-eyed at all the beautiful wood and horn that was available. (Heck, I almost bought a couple pieces of wood anyway, just because they were so pretty. They'd probably look just as good on my desk as on the tang of a knife, right?)

Kudos to the folks at the OKCA who put this thing together. It was a huge show, and could not have been an easy undertaking to organize.

Great posts Sarah-always such a great read, I was wondering if anyone has got a shot of Charlie at his table-and get a shot of that table too!!
Your reply's leave me scratching my head as to how you do it-they are the most delightful and well set out posts that I have seen - I cant even do a muti - quote reply as of yet lol.

To me the ultimate will be to get over to either Blade-or this Oregon show to....
1, Meet some of my ( what I call good ) friends I have made here - that in itself would be THE main reason for the big trip.

2, To be able to experience looking at all the wonderful knives-it would be one of the highlights of my life - just down from my birth of my girls, and the day I married Sue!

Did anybody see Chris Tucker from GEC?

Yes I talked with her for a little while! She was very friendly and informative and a pleasure to meet. Very down to earth and I could have talked to her longer but there were other people waiting to look and talk and I didn't want anybody else to miss out on getting a deal from her. :) They didn't have a whole lot on display or for sale but I did get to hold a Pemberton and the new Conductor Whittler so that was cool.

Buck knives Joe Houser was wearing a Burgundy polo shirt with a Buck knife emblem on the upper left. Doesn't wear caps.

Pics of Buck area, over in Buck forum if you wish to further ID him.

I'm pretty sure this is the camel bone Canal Street he showed me.

better than those pictures do it justice though. Some very cool patterns on it for sure!

From the little I can see, I understand why it caught your attention. I can only imagine how good it looked in person.

If you ever think you're going to make either of those, I hope I have enough advanced notice to start walkin'. ;)

Great to meet you guys too. That was a whirlwind. I don't think I have talked to that many people in my whole life!

Here are some of my pics.

So...not so great a pics. But it was a blast.

We had 16 ft of table space. It wasn't nearly enough, yet it was more than we could possibly manage. About 5 feet of Bark River, 2 feet of Scagel and Northwoods kitchen and misc and the rest were Queen, GEC, Northwoods pocket knives.

Oh. and a couple Chris Reeve too.

I found this knife and fell in love.

I didn't buy it yet. I have the owner's name and am still chewing on it.
