All this talk of hot dogs has spurred me to ask Barb to get some buns so we can have chili dogs tonight. No Ball Park or other pseudo dogs but Real Bratwurst!!!!
Been looking for ages for the old style real -White Brats-!!!! Barb finally found them at Albertson's I think, may have been Reasor's, cant recall right now.
They're the Johnsonville brand and brown up real nice with great flavor and a satisfying crunch when you bite the casing.:D
We've seen this brand before but never the real white ones and we haven't tried their others.
Might be worth looking into now that we know these are good.
I can't hardly wait to get these on the grill.
I was introduced to the white brats in Banning SoCal hot off the grill at a company party thrown for the men by the Deutsch Company where I worked in '74-'77.
When I first saw them I figured that by being white they would be loaded with fat.
Didn't know at the time that they're a pure pork sausage and I've been searching for them since.
Couldn't even find them at a specialty butcher shop in Warren PA.
Now I have something else to get fatter on.;)

Yup! Ace licked the plates clean, but Barb's gonna wash 'em anyway.;)

As a self professed hot dog aficionado, and devotee of the great American hot dog, I am more than a little offended by the garbage now being produced by meat companies in this country. Rubber, indigestible pseudo-sausages, according to H.L. Mencken.>>>>>

Here Here!

I didn't know how good a dog could be until I found the dog stand at the bottom of the hill from the university I attended. Not only were the dogs great tasting, but the buns succulent, and the tomatoes, chilli, or what have you on top fantastic.

A great hot dog is good enough reason to live another day.

Sooooooo......did you ask what brand you were eating???

I was also hyped and had hot dogs for lunch before work. I work part time at a friend's produce stand, normally from around 2:00 to 7 or 8:00. I don't like to eat anything heavy before I go, because it makes me lethargic......and I sample fruit and vegies out to customers all day and end up eating a bunch myself. But, I couldn't help myself after all the talk. :D

;)

I bought these on sale recently at Albertson's (anything at Albertson's is too expensive if it's not on a heavy duty sale) and thought they looked really anemic......but they turned out to be really tasty.

Ichor- I was 18 years old. Food- good. I did not ask what brand of hotdogs they had.

Oh.....sorry, munk. I thought your meant like yesterday.....or last week or something. As usual, I didn't really think before I responded. :p

You thought fine. That was 30 years ago. I bet they used something like the Hebrew National dogs. It would have had to be easily available.

from a 43-year resident of Chicago who was known to wander the city on an old BMW twin motorcycle in search of "joints" and hot dog vendors/restaurants.

Get good dogs...Vienna is the choice of most Chicago vendors. Yellow, tangy mustard (name brand, no generic), relish that doesn't have too much juice in it, fresh sliced tomatoes (no hydroponic crap if you please), small sweet peppers (intact), diced sweet onion (again, spend the money), and the secret ingredient: celery salt. These ingredients are layered, not just applied; onions last for the gourmet.

Fresh large hot dog buns, steamed or briefly microwaved so they are moist, not dripping.

Salt and pepper to taste.

Figure on two per person, and those who don't eat the second one, require a note from their internist.

And the hotdog was for the munchies, right?

Ice Cream: Ben and Jerry's isn't too bad. My favorite flavors are Chunky Monkey and Chubby Hubby :D There's also a chain of ice cream shops here in D/FW called Marble Slab that's quite good.

Cheese/Produce/Fish: Great selection at the Whole Foods Market, a Texas chain of supermarkets specializing in natural foods. I've seen 'em in D/FW and Austin (where they originated). There's another chain here in Texas called Central Market that's run by the H.E.B. grocery store folks that is similarly good in this regard. We have both here in Plano.

Hot Dogs: As others have posted, Hebrew National is the best std hot dog out there, bar none. Also good knockwurst. To go with your hot dogs, you need Bubbie's kosher dill pickles and sauerkraut. Made the old-fashioned way with NO vinegar.
