OT: Folders (again)

Framelocks all the way: you can feel how the lock is coping with what you are doing, because your fingers are wrapped around the mechanism.

I own too many Sebenzas and Mnandis, so the solution for me is always a Chris Reeve framelock.

I like my Bradley Alias 2 (prototype). Have been thinking about gettting the larger model as well... Also carry an AFCK (old school liner) and love it. Mini-Grip is another on the "A" list.
How are you liking that Delica 3?

Another for an XM-18 here.

Right on mate. That finger over the frame gives you the feel and security of a fixed blade. As I posted I like the micarta sebenza's, but no matter what brand you choose the framelock's the stuff.

If you can find one TL, I would go with the XM-18. Next choice would be a Sebenza. I currently have both and the XM-18 is now my EDC. I've owned countless folders...perhaps due to living in California also! The knife laws here are completely stupid!!! But, IMHO...for the buck you can't beat an Axis lock Benchmade. As far as I'm concerned they still make one of the nicest folders on the market, and they can be reasonably priced. Liner lock, frame lock, or an Axis lock are my only choices for a folder. They are easily opened and closed with one hand. In the right hand, all of these can be done quickly. Of course the king of one handed opening is still and always will be Spyderco, and the "hole". There's a reason they have a patent (or is it a trademark) on it! My only complaint is that I flat out strongly dislike lockbacks. I've owned one of there compression lock systems and didn't really get fired up about it. Well that's my two cents!:D

if we have another get together before you buy one, ill bring a bunch of folders.

lightfoot 458 (which i think you handled last time)
lge classic sebenza
emerson cqc13
benchmade 970 (emerson cqc7 first gen)
marzitelli tork 2

all are frame/liner locks. my favorite is the lightfoot, id like to get a hinderer eventually.

hinderer folders tend to be in the 400-500 range, depending on materials. but they are difficult to find.

lightfoots are about the same price, and seem to be more readily available.

Anyone have input on the KERSHAW ZTs? They look really beefy and easy to obtain?

BTW: I just did a quick web search on Hinderer knives and the ones I saw were $500 and sold. :(

For solid folders check out Greg Lightfoot's work.
This is the full contact folder, titanium framelock, CF scales, BG42 blade.

the kershaws are HUGE! but they are nice and well made.

The ZT 300's look huge but the 200's look a bit smaller.

Jos: I really like that front guard.

dual purpose. its a flipper for opening, then a guard after.

if you like, you can take my sebenza for a test drive. no clip though, i stripped the screw and have to order another one.

The ZT0200 actually feels bigger than the ZT0300. They have the same blade length (regardless of what the literature says) but the handle is thicker/bulkier on the 200.

Well I was going through the FS threads on the exchange and saw a BM Stryker for sale for what I think is a good price. But then another member posted that it was a counterfeit. Anyone know how to tell the difference? Thanks. :)

There's alot of good blades out there and you will have to find the one that trips your trigger....i got alot of blades....and alot have came and gone...personally i like a large folder....a few months ago i got this bug up my ass that i was gonna break my strider SMF GG recurve .....i spent 2 solid weeks tryin to break it and it wasnt gonna happen...i was cutting steel bands off units of lumber by wedging the blade between the unit and the band and twisting and pulling until the band broke...did that many times.

i have a door and window business and i performed every task i could doing installations and the smf is hardly scratched....i dont care about the political bullshit...its a tough blade...i also have a RJ Martin tanto devastator that always finds its way into my pocket and that knife has been through some hell and i havent even had to sharpen it yet....i cant speak highly enough about RJ's knives.

theres alot of good ones out there and you will just have to find your's...one man's trash is another man's treasure....ya know what im sayin !! good luck !!

sometimes the screws are different or placed wrong. look for a grind that appears "amateurish", the shape/placement of the clip, poorly finished liner, incorrectly textured scales, etc.

pm me the listing and ill have a look. ive had a couple strykers and many benchmades.

found it. many things wrong with that one. its a fake.

I like this one for the price and just for the solid feel and lock up(blade steel is N690). It aint INFI but tough as nails none the less.
It is the Ontario XM-1 Extreme Military Folder. There is a part serated version too.

Crafft,
how do you feel regarding the rather tiny pivot screws on the heavy duty backlock offerings from spyderco?
They may be well sturdy enough, but I think a bit meatier would just fit better to the overall appearance of this models.

Alex

Hi Alex,

As for asthetiques I agree with you and maybe more people would feel more confident using a knife with large(r) pivotscrews. Like the Lonewolf Harsey designs for example.

But as you say the "tiny" pivot screws used by Spyderco are sturdy enough!!

Tyrkon

I'm going to come in on the lower end of the price range here. I was looking for a new folder about 3+ years ago. I was looking for something that was quick opening yet compact and easy to put in my pocket. I ended up going with a CRKT M-16. My choice was heavily influenced by my lack of moneys. Years have passed and money is not as big of a deal (2 Busse's so far this year alone) yet it is still my favorite folder to date. Just bought my wife one last month. They are available in a range of colors, blades styles and handle materials. I will keep using until I succeed in breaking it or Busse sells a Infi folder.
