OT: glock less for the first time in years!

With pistols there are calibre and barrel length and capacity restrictions but yes, I have a G17, 1911, and S&W41 is the safe at the moment... :)

I may try and go get her back tomorrow ! I may just give up the 1911 ! I just love my glock too much! So we will see what tomorrow brings I guess ?

As much as it pains me to say this (not a 1911 guy), why trade in a well built/customized pistol for pennies on the dollar for a dime a dozen Glock you used to have?

I say that as somebody who likes and uses Glock, for what it's worth…...

I agree with RAD, I am a die hard glock fan but don't take a ride on the 1911, especially with Tigerhide scales on it to get a glock that is a dime a dozen. Only a hog will appreciate those scales

I have Glocks, and have had very nice $$ 1911's and would rather stake my life on the lowly Glock than the much over-rated 1911. The ugly things just work. Can't say the same for the 1911's....they always seem to need an excuse of some sort...ammo, magazines...forgot to take the safety off, did not have the beaver-tail grip safety depressed all the way....I have huge hands and the 1911's just do not work for me despite spending great sums of money on top end stuff and training with them. I have actually moved on to .....wait for it........Steyr M9-A1 and a Smith and Wesson shield in 9mm....yes...9mm.

I honestly just miss my glock and feel better with it buy my side! Now if you live in VA and would like to know more or what store it will be at shoot me a PM!

While I have always thought I should get a Glock I never have. They don't fit my hand well (maybe a gen4 would). My brother had an original Glock 20 before the 10mm made a comeback. Problem with it was it would fire out of battery. Blew the ejector rod out and peppered me pretty good. Couple minutes with my leatherman and it was running again but scared the crap out of me every trigger pull. Love my Kimber and Sig for high cap but wouldn't trade either for a Glock. Maybe if I got a 2 Glock for one deal I would think about it. Save a couple bucks and get more plastic down the road.

I'd love to have seen that. It escapes me how a Glock could fire out of battery, being an armorer. And semi-autos don't have an ejector rod. Do you mean the recoil spring guide rod, the ejector, or the extractor depressor plunger?

Hey Seth,

I've got medium to small hands for a dude..... I could always fire the Gen 2and 3 Glocks just fine. The fit always felt.... Well....blocky. Gen 4 with the basic grip (I don't use any of the included grips) is just right for me. Say plastic piece of doodoo all you want. I just love the darn thing. Lighter than my p226 (west Germany made) and I can shoot it just as well, if not better.

This piece (not my pic). And you can search the webs for Glocks firing out of battery, wasn't me who came to that conclusion it was a gunsmith.

Thanks I have small hands also and while like you I can shoot them they do feel/point right. One of these days a gen4 will be in my lineup.

FYI, Glock's (also most striker fired pistols) can fire out of battery. PSA…..Make sure you are using quality ammo that is within SAAMI spec & please do not reload unless you REALLY know what you're doing…….

I disagree. The striker safety (internal) is disengaged by an extension of the trigger bar, which only moves about 1/8" when the trigger is pulled. If the slide were not fully closed, the trigger bar could not (that I see) line up with the striker safety to disengage it and allow the striker to go far forward enough to fire. Now, the infamous kaboom, a case failure as a result of a non-fully-supported chamber--I'll buy that. And I know the XD can't fire out of battery. I used to have one, and it dry fired all the time when I would take up the trigger before the slide had fully cycled.

I'm a bit late to this thread but....

I have two older G20s that have went beyond 5000 rounds. They are fine. The two I own have used everything from FBI level loads to old Norma barnbuster stuff. Mostly quality handloads. They are running fine.

At one time in the gun press, it was mentioned that Colt's Delta Elite would be itself to death within 5000 rounds if left stock with no preventive maintenance. Not quite the case, but I've heard that applied to many other 10mm makes (including a revolver).

As well, I've seen more than one gun fire out of battery. For varied reasons. I personally haven't seen it more in strikers fired guns.

Good move. ^ And, get a Ruger LC9s, for back-up.
If there was no Glock, I'd have a Walther P-38. Get what you like.

Totally with M67 on this one...

They are not pretty, stylish or something that has a soul (such as God's Own Sidearm - The 1911) but they work and work and work... still if I could have only one... yes it would be a 1911... ;)

fixed it for you Andy!!

Well they didn't have my glock I sold them so I was out the door! Looks like I gotta get a new one and break her in! I had the trigger on my 21 so nice I just loved it! But I'll get another one to use and abuse! Isn't that what tax returns are for guns and knives?
