OT: Philosophy III

I like to be there, too, munk.

I must go to the mountains
I must die on the mountains
If I cannot go to the mountains
I'll live forever on the plain

Just somethin' special 'bout a mountain. I don't cotton to desert, but changing elevation, and tall green trees, and water- they just kinda cool my soul.

John

I don't understand how anyone could dislike a desert. If I could take you with me, Spectre, out into one, like I wanted to do with Rusty, you'd see.

I love the Mountains too. I love the deserts rising into mountains, as they do in some places. I think my favorite place is that just at the top of timberline, where the trees are mishapen because of wind, rain and snow and the low O2, and the rocks are coming into prominence. It is a wild land there, and looks magical.

Shane doesn't live that far from me. Spectre, if you'd manage to get West sometime, say in Wyoming, I could meet both of you there.
For that matter, I've always wanted a High Plains Khuk Konvention, with Heber, ACstudio, Raghorn, me, Shane and whoever I'm leaving out...

Shane, are you or Spectre coming to the Reno Khuk Do this next Spring? I am going.

You guys come by the house when you are of a mind....

I got some room as long as you don't mind humble lodgings.....And a good tent if you prefer not to hear me snore...

And we can work some steel...and smoke a fat cigar...and then go talk to my mountains...and the trees...and the river....and the wind...Hey...we better invite Yvsa....

Yvsa...you are invited too!

Good medicine....

For you two friends I am going to spin one last philosophy thread...

THis one won't be a question...it'll be a deifinitve statement about...

Why Evil is like hunting elephants....

Shane

That's fine, Shane, and I think I will manage to see you, perhaps sooner than you think. I've friends in Sheridan. Post your new philosophy thread, but don't stop asking questions in HI forum. It was fun.

Anger itself is not a bad thing. It is how we react to and deal with it that is the problem. To not become angry at somethigs can be wrong in itself. Someone earlier talked of righteous anger or sometimes referred to as righteous indignation. Don't dwell dwell on it. Be quick to forgive and look for ways to extend love and compassion to resolve your anger or the situation that caused it. Then again sometimes a swift cut with a convexed edged kuk is appropriate. The bible is full of examples of God's anger. He never dwelled on it. He dealt with it and those that caused it righteously and justly. He was always quick to forgive. He also told us He will forgive who he will, but we must forgive all. Now I am rambling, so I will shut up.

Then God DID NOT create all things

I don't even see God as necessarily having created anything..the whole "uncaused cause" thing makes my head hurt...

I agree more with the buddhist idea that we are born perfect, and our TRUE nature..unclouded by our upbringing and a million other experiences, is one that is loving. Anger arises out of fear...if you really meditate on that it makes sense (at least to me).

I see there's a whole lot of us that would have a good time on the Mountain talking.

For some reason, a Donovan line comes to mind after reading Rob's post;

'First, there is no mountain,
then there is no mountain,
then there is."

Or something like that. The world according to munks disturbed memory is a chaotic and sometimes frightening place....

munk

Caterpillar sheds his skin to find the butterfly within.

First there is a mountain, then there is no mountain, then there is.
First there is a mountain, then there is no mounatin, then there is.

:)

Ah, yes. The age of songs whose words could actually be understood.

:) :) :)

The late poet, Charles Bukowski, used to rave about Donovan's talent, songs and lyrics. On the other hand, the more famous Bob Dylan he thought was a bit of a fraud, artificially pumped up by media and with lyrics often meaningless and unimportant.

Life is a series of footprints. A series of events. Your destiny is made up of those daily steps. There is no quick fix.

Asking questions is very powerful. Not asking questions is stupid.

Not asking questions is "ass-U-me."

If I ask questions I stand a better chance of understanding, don't I?

2 books I'd like to recommend:

And we shall cast Rainbows upon the land, by Raymond Rietze. Ray is the most gentle enlightened being I've ever had the pleasure to meet. and his book is amazing. If you have trouble finding this book let me know and i'll help you get it.

If the Buddha Got Stuck, a handbook for change on a spiritual path. By Charlotte Kasl. Excellent book!!

And such a discussion is why us ndns call God, "The Great Mystery."

The Great Mystery cannot be, nor is meant to be understood, one can only wonder in awe. To look upon the face of The Great Mystery/God would be certain death in the state we are presently in. It's only after one has completed the Star Journey that they are changed enough to be permitted to look upon the face of The Great Mystery/God.

Grandfather on the other hand can be understood.
Snip..........

Edited, almost said too much.:o

And that is something I did not understand as a younger man. When Christians talked of a good man being, "God Fearing", I just thought it was more of the guilt and punishment stuff they were too wrapped up in. Yvsa states that in our present state to look upon the face of the Great Mystery is certain death. I certainly do not have answers, but the meaning to me is clear; we can't handle it. How much truth do you really want to know about yourself? "God Fearing"' indicates a certain amount of respect and awareness of the kind of force and reality exposure to God would entail.

munk

We traditionals do not fear The Great Mystery, nor do we bow our heads when we pray. We raise our faces to the sky so The Great Mystery can look on our countenance and know we are not afraid of our Maker.

The only God fearing ndns I know are those who converted to Christianity. We do not understand one another.

It is a particular of the Jews in the Old Testament that they would look towards God and actively question and talk to Him.
I always thought that was interesting.

And despite living near a Reservation and the Rocky Mountains, it is only recently that I understood how profound a cultural division exists between the West and the NDN societies. It is an entirely different world, of perception, and though having some similarities with the East, it is not like that either.

numinous \NOO-min-us; NYOO-\, adjective:
Indicating or suggesting the presence of a god-- spiritual, divine; inspiring awe and reverence-- holy.

No matter which particular belief system you practice, I think we all agree that the numinous is found in Nature.

Mike we miss ya bud. You really need to work your way up that company food chain so that you can access the cantina during the day.

Jake

Thanks, Jake.

I'm working for a branch of the government where I have internet, but it's constantly monitored.... Sounds dramatic, considering I'm a low-paid peon. I catch up on the forum at night.

But...*cough, cough* my secret source in Kathmandu is on the lookout for a couple khuks still needed at the Khukuri Repository.

Ad Astra, senatorium sweepada flooriam.
