OT: Philosophy III

The real question is...Did God Create anger?

Sorry guys, I really don't have time to read all of this.

The solution has already been presented by others, in part.

God created us in his image. Anger at and hatred of sin is a characteristic of God. It is part of who he IS. Anger, like other things, can be corrupted, misused, etc. God is pleased to permit that, but does not cause it. Evil is not a created thing. It is a corruption of good things created by God. God created good creatures, some of whom corrupted themselves. I guess one way to say it is that nothing exists that is not derived from what God originally created.

So, if you say eveil is a "thing". then God did not directly create "that". I would say he foresaw it, even ordained it, but ordained in such a way as to have the creatures fully responsible.

How could he do that? If we really try to understand the concept of an infinite and eternal being, we might realize that there will be limits to our understanding. What kind of god would be one that i could fully , or nearly, comprehend?

"my ways are not your ways..."

Having said all this, I also want to say that all the supposed intellectual arguments against believing God are ,ultimately speaking, side issues. If I believe the Bible to be the word of God, then I must acknowledge the truth of what Jesus said in John 3:19 " This is the verdict. Men love the darkness rather than the light because their deeds are evil..." We all want to hide from the righteousness of God's just judgement. See Adam at the beginning for an example.

The original temptation still shows it's foul, ugly head. "you shall be as gods..." We all think we have the final say on what is right and wrong, on what is truth. We sit back, evaluating, judging, thinking our own thoughts, as if they were determinative. We have such a terrible time bowing the knee.

"Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little."

My words are of little value, if any. I have found encouragement, and much benefit from many of you here. If I cause anyone to pause, to rethink, to reconsider, to be convicted, or hopefully to be encouraged, that is more than i can expect, and certainly more than i deserve.

truth is absolute, and has very hard edges. Not all is black and white, but the white is there, shining gloriously, veiled for the most part, untroubled, certain of triumph, and of the glory soon to be revealed.

take care,

Tom

You can't fool me, Lord Russel, it's turtles ALL THE WAY DOWN!

There once was a berlecue dancer, a pip.
Who could make any man's heart trip.
But she read Science Fiction
And died of constriction
Attempting a morbius strip.

Well, there's a post that's gonna bring a lot of peace to our forum.

Oh well. I understand your point of view, John. Mark Twain wrote a scathing satire on God once which he did not print for fear of being hung.

I don't worry about the Bible condemning me. I'm glad for God's grace. I get mine directly from the Maker. I am very glad I was not raised in an environment of disaproval and God's wrath and condemnation, not to say Spectre has been.

Take care, all, and let's be careful.

I sort of agree with John. One of the things that got me about Christianity is that God, the ever loving Father, let his son die such a horrible death to assuage Himself when I, just a mere mortal man would go to any lengths to save my son from any kind of pain and suffering if I were able.

One thing that helps me get along with folks who believe differently than myself is I figure there religion is just as strange and wierd as mine when it comes to the bottom line.
I like that part where the Bible says, "Know the truth and it will set you free."
I have felt set free ever since I turned from the Christian way and embraced the beliefs of my people and accepted the reponsibility of my own actions.

Well, munk, I merely paraphrased the Bible, with direct links to everything. It's not even taken out of context.

I gave some thought, years ago, to writing The Gospel According to John. It would be a somewhat tongue-in-cheek graphic novel.

The chief reason I did not, was that I knew someone who poorly understood what Jesus had said would kill me.

'S alright, munk. The Christians- at least, those who actually know what the Bible says- know that all things must glorify god, so I'm certain they're happy anytime anyone posts anything. Or doesn't.

I used to pratically run from a room whenever either politics or religion came up, but then I realized something:

My beliefs are not me, and if they are attacked, it is they that are attacked, not me.

Absolutely. And you figure something else out too; even if some of the discussion directed towards you does reflect judgement of a personal nature, and not all of it kind, it's more than OK, it's still peachy keeno.

The hardest judgement is always going to be you about you, and you're not responsible for other people.

I don't waste time poking holes in the Bible, which are probably more numerous than the number of deer in my local mountain range. I would never think or want to criticise Native Americans as being men dancing and poking around in the dirt. I'm not interested in seeing Islam as robots as they sink to the ground, face Mecca and pray. I don't even waste any of my time thinking Atheists are in for a Big Shock someday, when the Light reveals who they are.

I love a good discussion about Truth, though.

Spectre, you or Thomas Linton or one of our more read companions will recall this; over the gate to one of the German concentration camps, (and I can't pronounce it let alone spell it- either the camp's name or the phrase) are the words, Work makes you Free.
(Work Makes Free)

That'll learn ya...like a snake...or an elephant...make sure it is dead b'fore you tarn yer beck!

Tom added a bunch of good stuff.

I wonder how come God made it?

SInce he made it before Adam was around...or Eve for that matter...

Seems he should have known the dangers...like ltting little kids play with guns...somebody gonna get hurt.

I expect once it was done...as in all things...undoing it is even harder.
