OT/Sml .22 Pistol

I wish Kel-Tec or Ruger would produce a .22 pocket pistol.
Those two are my fav.---size wise.

If your looking for one THAT small get a Walther TPH(they are expensive though) or one of the great little Berretta's(great gun and price) and don't look back.
The Berretta 21 is double action and the 950 the single action which is much thinner. The tip up barrel is a huge plus, a great design.
If your looking for one that small I think the Berretta will be the one, IMHO.

Now if you decide to go a little larger again the debates back on.

I'd love to put a TacSol upper on my 22/45. What's the typical retail out-the-door to your local FFL??? Any idea how much weight reduction does it give? Just b/c I'm curious.

The only one I ever bothered to check was a 5.5" bull barrel, which I replaced with a 6" Pac-Lite from Tactical Solutions. This was several years ago. While I do not remember the exact weight difference, it was just over 12 ounces.

I purchased my first two at their web price plus shipping. Since then I have received $10-15 off each. FFL fees are relative to the individual FFL.

:)

I got the pistol!!
A Jimenez JA .22 :D
I'll probably get lot's of laughs but this is all I need.
$125.
Thanks for all the advice and please, continue this thread.

PLEASE, don't take this wrong, but a few questions;
1) Is this your first pistol?
2) What exatly drew you to this pistol?
3) Are going to stake your life on this pistol?
4) will this be strickly a range gun?

Bro---This is a pistol to dispatch seriously injured wild life. And, a last resort pistol.
I have a Glock 17 for the other stuff.

Ken44---I'm leaning towards the Walther, TPH. ;)
Thanks.

Be real carefull doing that with a .22 LR
It can be tough to hit the small brain of an animal, even at close range. Just a tad off and you could cause further pain and suffering. I'm serious, I've seen it happen more than once.

360 is right!!
Low on dough.
Ken44, would you rec a .380 over the .22?

I don't know the size of animals your talking about(varies I assume). But with most any handgun load, esp a smaller one, a brain or spine shot will most likely be the only one that will dispatch the animal almost instantly. You may not even penetrate the skull 100% of the time if you do hit it with a .22lr. Through, or right behind the ear is where the old timers around here placed it when Deer hunting with a .22LR.

I really wouldn't suggest any pistol for that, unless you can be 100% accurate all the time. I don't think your the type that would want to take a chance of causing more suffering, and have to watch it.
About 10 years ago I saw an LEO pulled over looking over a wounded Deer.
I got out to see if he needed any help. He pulled out his Glock 17 and fired at least 6 rounds... he shot its jaw off and everywhere else around the brain but the right spot. He fired a few more and finally killed it, it wasn't a pretty site. I was about to ask him to let me try.

With a .22 rifle you can acually put the barrel right were it needs to be if the animal is seriously injured. You don't want to get as close as you would have to with a pistol to do that. And injured animal could seriously hurt you.

Sorry to ramble on a bit, but don't want you to do something that could upset you. Think about it, and if you have to go with a pistol, go with a larger caliber. .22lr or any will work, but placement will have to be exact with any.

I had a friend that was a fur trapper, he used to use a Shot-Gun loaded with a blank shell, he'd press the muzzle against the head for an instant messless death. I don't know how well that would work on something as large as a deer, but he used that technique successfully on Beaver and the like.

I agree with Ken on this one, a .22lr could get gruesome when trying to dispatch an animal quickly.:thumbdn: An inaccurate pistol could make for difficult shot placement, a rifle in .22LR would be much better.

However, I recommend a 12 gauge Shot-Gun, it would never know what hit it... And they're cheap, I have Remington 870's which I really like.

Just my .02 Lycosa, you seem like the kind of guy that would hate to make an animal suffer needlessly...:)

Thanks guys. Good advice. The last animal I shot was a skunk that was hit by a car and that was about 5 years ago.
This might be an excuse to purchase a new .380. :D

If I recall the rule of thumb was this for a deer:

Draw an imaginary X. Left ear to right eye, right ear to left eye. Where it intersects is the spot.

When I was a teenager I participated in many hog killings,
The most common way of dispatching them was a .22 round to the brain, from a pistol. I never saw more than one round needed, even on huge hogs.

(I suppose community hog killings are a thing of the past.
First good cold snap of the fall, each farmer in turn hosted a group to slaughter and render his pork. The very best thing about "hog killin' time" was fresh scrambled hog brains and eggs. Dang, I'm getting old.)
