OT: Whats your favorite SHTF Handgun and why?

Only if you are leaning too far right. If you stay on balance, reality hits you and you see that you can have what you need and almost anything you want.

I
Clint Smith and he has a lot of good and funny sayings. here are a few more

Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets. I may get killed with my own gun, but he’s gonna have to beat me to death with it, cause it’s going to be empty.

If you’re not shootin’, you should be loadin’. If you’re not loadin, you should be movin’, if you’re not movin’, someone’s gonna cut your head off and put it on a stick.

The only purpose of fighting is to Win!

Shoot what’s available, as long as it’s available, until something else becomes available.

When you reload in low light encounters, don’t put your flashlight in your back pocket… If you light yourself up, you’ll look like an angel or the tooth fairy…and you’re gonna be one of ‘em pretty soon.

The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either.

The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental.

Don’t pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he’ll just kill you.

If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

I carry a gun cause a cop is too heavy.

When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.

An armed man will kill an unarmed man with monotonous regularity.

The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm. ‘Sheriff, I see you have your pistol. Are you expecting trouble?’ ‘No ma’am. If I were expecting trouble, I would have brought my rifle.’

Beware the man who only has one gun. He probably knows how to use it!

You can say ‘stop’ or ‘alto’ or use any other word you think will work but I’ve found that a large bore muzzle pointed at someone’s head is pretty much the universal language.

Don’t shoot fast, shoot good.
Love Clint Smith.

Great choices. Steyr SSG is a great rifle. P226 is of course one of the great classics.

Of course these days I keep this stuff hidden in the truck for when SHTF.

It would have to be a wheel gun. Why? because it goes bang no matter what. I have a S&W 626 so that would be the one. Knife, big and light... Like an ERGO ZTBM. Cobalt can probably get you the skinny on those... AND HELLO DENNIS!!!!

Well, not “no matter what.” But I hear you and keep several around as well for the near truth of the concept.

Love wheel guns and a 340 PD is one of my primary concealed carry pieces. They have limiting factors but I'd probably toss these in the go bag if I were really bugging out. Hard to pass on 8 shots of 357 and fast reloads with moon clips, along with a Busse that would thrive on up close and personal work ;)

I’ll start the Glock love back up.

Pistol: Glock 17M because that’s the one I have a holster for that will accommodate the light. Glock 19 is a close second.

Knife: EU17 Magnum because it is a beast of a chopper but rides easy on the belt. However, if I felt I’d need to use the knife as a weapon then I’d consider the Basic 9 instead. The EU doesn’t have a stabby handle at all.

Rifle: My Tikka Compact Lite in 308. Since this pic was taken, a rear lens cover and bipod have been added. IMO, it’s the glock of rifles.

Wow. I am really surprised that in 11 pages I am the only one to go with the Beretta 92. More military mags and parts for me!

The 92 is a very popular gun, so I am sure you are no where near alone in that thought. I use to own a 92f and also owned the Taurus 92. The taurus was a nice gun as well, but no where near the quality of the Beretta.

Taurus 92 was the first handgun I ever purchased. Still have it somewhere. Just a bit on the big side for easy carry so it has been relegated to the back of the safe for now. Does make me think I should dig it out for some range time. I probably have over 10k rounds through mine and she never skipped a beat.

They were good and cheap. They were made using the older Beretta machinery that they kept when they nationalized the factory. In other words they stole the equipment, lol Or at least that is what I remember. Also, I actually liked the safety on the Taurus better than the Beretta. Taurus was a frame safety which is easier and can be carried cocked and locked a la 1911

I think you're correct.
The first handgun I ever bought was a Taurus PT-99. I wish I had gotten the 92. The 99 had the adjustable rear sight. It was great.... until the elevation screw chipped where the elevation pin crossed it. After that, ever turn of the screw (if you had to turn it) caught when it passed that chip. But the real reason I quit shooting it was just because it was too big for my hand. I never could get a proper grip on it.

Yeah, the grip on the Taurus was bigger than the Beretta for some reason. I had both and the Beretta felt perfect, while the Taurus felt much bigger.
