OT: Whats your favorite SHTF Handgun and why?

Yeah

yeah man first time I took it to the range I was in love, I was so reluctant to go 9mm in an AR platform but man this thing changed my mind. Did the green dot for 25 yards and laser at 25 feet. It’s absolutely flawless and easily took its place as my go to gun.

it replaced its big brother, the Sig 516 pistol as my truck gun...

Nice!!

It's unfortunate so many people discount a firearm like the Copperhead as a toy. Too many flashback's of Tec Nine's and Calico's I guess. They are extremely capable. I have the Aimpoint Mico on mine. If you saw my picture I found that case on Amazon for $115. Down side was it had a "Red Cross" symbol on it which I thought was ridiculous if there was ever an accident and someone grabbed it, they'd be in for a shock. So I bought the biggest iron on patch I could find to cover for another $8.

I really like SIGs (P6, P210, P220, P226, P229, P365); they're my Glock. But cocked and locked would be a really nice option. I'm going to have to get one of these.

I only have one Sig pistol left not counting a 1911 Tacops Commander that's on consignment at a local shop, (no reason other than having way too many 1911's). I swore them & Beretta's off unfortunately when I stopped shooting anything with the DA/SA trigger system. The one I kept was my X-Five Short. Single Action Only, cocked and locked all day and one of the best mag capacities in the business. They made them in a number of configurations and can still be had for reasonable prices, at least on the less configurable models.

the more I’m reading, the more I’m laughing at the Sig-Loyalist level of hate on the Arex. Getting more of a kick out the haters. Kind of like reading the Busse haters who have never had one but their Benchmade Gold class can and is the end all of any knifes abilities.

Yeah, Not sure why so much hate. I own Sigs and like them, but I see the value in this Arex. It has features that sigs don't, that I like. Sig is certainly not going to lose any business because of Arex. It actually feels like a different gun in the hand. I stay out of all the BS on line. Gun forums and fans are way worse than knife forums and fans.

I don't want to get too far off topic, or digress. But where is the slide release on this pistol? It seems he safety is only a safety. Up for on, down for off. And it has the decocker like a SIG. And even the same slide lock as the SIG (lock slide to rear, rotate takedown lever). But how do you lock the slide to the rear?

I really like the operation of this pistol, from what you describe. And the fact it is so close to a SIG probably means things like SIG holsters will fit it? The operation of it seems to be the best of all worlds, though (hammer-fired worlds, that is).

was wondering if you guys have heard of this gun. Arex Rex Zero 1 from Slovenia(same place as Melania Trump is from). This gun has passed torture tests that have stopped most other guns. It is very similar to sig, but has some added features. It is ambidextrous and can be carried either hammer down with the same decocker thats in a Sig or can be carried cocked and locked with a frame mounted safety. I have only put 300 rounds through it. It shoots quite nice.

So it fits in my leather galco p229 elite holster. Not sure that it would fit all holsters though.

So the hammer drop lever, which looks just like the sig hammer drop lever serves double function on the Arex Rex Zero. When the slide is locked back, you can release the slide forward with the same hammer drop lever. After you release the slide and it goes forward on a chambered round, you hit the lever again and it safely drops the hammer. So the hammer drop lever does both functions. Pretty ingenious.

If you are still having trouble with my description, I can probably make a video of how it all functions.

Nice. Genius even! Makes a lot more sense than the nearly vestigial looking slide release of the SIG 22x series. Even though I own a 229, I can't say that I'm much of a SIG person. I only have the 229 because it was a special "group" buy with special markings. I like it.... but it is a safe queen.

I like it enough that I am going to buy a full size version after all this craziness is over. Also, because of the slide bevelling on top, these guns are a few ounces lighter than their sig equivalents. Which helps in the carry department.

I looked through the Arex website and a few reviews. Generally very positive. I am intrigued.
I need another handgun like I need another Busse....:).....but after all this panic buying is over I might be down for trying one.

I find the lack of CZ in this thread disturbing!

I was thinking the same thing.

My SHTF handgun is the CZ P09.

I have three to choose from, each is set up a little differently. One has the safety installed and all factory parts (Black). One has a Cajun Gun Works trigger job (FDE). One has Primary Machine barrel and tuned springs (OD).

All have Talon Grips on them for additional grip action.

The one that would more than likely be my go-to would be the one with Primary Machine barrel. It is SCARY accurate. Quarter sized groups at 25 yards. Low recoil, smooth action, the factory triggers are very nice, and I love handle ergonomics.

My only gripe about the firearm is that the magazines are stupid expensive. At their cheapest, they were around $40. Thankfully, since I've had them over the last 5 years,I was able to gradually grow the number of magazines that I have to an acceptable level.

If I could choose one backup handgun, it would be my Vickers Tactical Glock 17. It has the RTF2 texturing, it's aggressive but I love it. For whatever reason, the trigger is really nice on this one too, crisp and relatively light (for a Glock). It doesn't have some of that typical sponginess that some Glocks have.

As far as rifle, it would be a PSA AR-15 pistol build that I did a while back with PDW brace. Nickel boron internals make it run slick. I did slap a Fostech Echo II trigger in there that has smoothed out after a lot of range sessions.

Rifle backup would by my AK underfolder. It runs like a sewing machine.

I heard the CZ P10C is a better Glock, But I wouldn't know
i briefly had a p10c.

Its a nice gun and if someone was buying their first handgun and had no investment in glock id probably point them to the cz.

the cz has
better sights
better trigger
"better" feel in the hands to some people.

its a little over engineered and more "complicated" than it needs to be imo when completely stripping it and looking at the individual parts, thats the amazing part of the glock if you ask me, no extra parts needed to accomplish what others do.

ive been shooting glocks so long that i cant stand the grip of 99% of other guns now. The glocks point like an extension of my hand and i didnt want to retrain myself to shoot the p10c so i ended up selling it.

Also helps that i have 100+ glock 19 mags.

took my "shtf" gun out for a range session on Easter :)

Cobalt, did you pick this up here in town somewhere, or order it online? Curious if any local stores are carrying them to look at.

Picked it up locally at a big place in Littleton. They probably have none right now, but they can order them for you.

I have been carrying glocks for over 20 years. As much I think it is an excellent gun, the Grip angle is the one thing I hate about Glock. It is not natural. Natural pointing grip angles are, 1911, Hi-power, Sig Sauer, CZ75, etc. Those guns are natural pointers. You actually have to modify your grip to shoot the glock. If you point naturally, the glock will shoot high, so you have canted your wrist down to compensate for the unnatural grip angle of the glock. As I have. When you put a 1911, Hipower or Sig P226 in your hand you realize how natural they are.

Thanks. I'm in Littleton, so I'll have to go looking once this craziness slows down and it's safe to go to the stores. I could walk to Denver G&A off Coal Mine and Wads...

Triple J !!!

Glock 9mm and any name brand ar 15 in .223 wild for the follow reasons.
1. Outside of the .22 lr, most bullets made for these, thus can scrounge if needed.
2. Parts are common to find, and easy to service/change parts on these platforms.
