OT, XM-18 passaround

Wow! I didn't know this thing was still out and about... Dang Dan, you must miss her by now (I had this one with me at Knobb Creek back in October!)

Thanks again brother for such a generous passaround.

Yeah, I can't wait to get her back. I've been carrying various folders around since then, mostly a sebbie, but I'll be happy when she's home. I've been letting people take their time with it. It's getting to the end of the list, so I know it'll be back soon. I'm just glad everyone's enjoying it.

well, ive had this one now for almost two weeks.

what i like:

1. blade shape is great for utility cutting.
2. flipper acts as a guard.
3. large choil, provides a nice spot for your index finger if choking up.
4. fit/finish are exellent.
5. smooth opening.
6. rock solid lock up and design.
7. ergonomics are great. feels like it was shaped for my hands.

what i could do without:

1. flipper. not my preference.
2. when using the thumbstud, the detente makes opening require some effort.

also a thick and heavy folder. doesn't bother me, i carry so much crap anyway. but something to consider if in the market.

what i hate:

1. its not mine.

:)

so whos next?? jaxx??

Hinderer received! :D:thumbup: Pix soon... :)

Sorry for resurrecting this thread, but it seemed appropriate because a brand new XM-18 (3.5" 3rd generation non-flipper) presented itself to me on Sunday (partly thanks to Twitter), and it should arrive today, at least according to the USPS website. The one feature I didn't care for was the flipper, so I had been casually looking for a non-flipper since.

Oh, and apparently Jaxx never got around to taking photos of this pass-around XM-18. ;)

I have had my hands on a few of these and I like the flipper part, I don't think I could have one for myself without it. It's much harder to thumb out otherwise...
I'm sure you got a good price on it eh Ken?

I like flippers, but the XM18s I had didn't flip very well at all so I sold them.

having never handles a Hinderer,what
I would like to know is
Does the non-flipper open with the
"flick of the thumb" like a strider does?

Lunde, maybe you can report when you get yours.
Thanks!

I have a NF. When it arrived, it would almost fall open with just slight wrist movement and fully lock. Very smooth. I actually had to tighten it up a bit so it wouldn't be considered a gravity knife.
It is a tank of a knife but carries well for me.

I haven't had a flipper model but I wouldn't want it. I have no problem opening it with the thumb stud. I think it would also get in the way when folding it.

I'm going to wait for the INFI Blade, I didn't like the one thread where I read about rusting issues and how it was addressed by Rick. I like how Busse takes care of each and every situation. I have never seen anything bad complaints, it's always taken care of. The Busse folder will be worth waiting for.

I got tired of waiting for the Busse folder so I broke down and bought this a couple of weeks ago.

I participated in a pass around with an XM a quite a while ago. It is a solid knife. The ergo's in the hand are better than you would think looking at the knife.

I would agree. I bought mine without having ever held one before. It is an absolute tank of a knife and bigger than I expected but amazingly enough it feels awesome in the hand. I've had it two weeks now and the only two days I haven't carried it was when I was at a healthcare facility doing clinicals.
