Our "Front Porch" ....

Howdy .... just got back from the OBX. Stayed about 12 miles up the beach in the middle of nowhere nothing but Sea Trurtles and wild horses.
The Jeep and my Hinderer right at home, I'll try and get some pics from Kim (I didn't take any) tough to take pics when your drunk and trying to keep your propeller hat from taking you airborne. No but seriously, if yours comes with a chin strap - don't use it.
Good food, great beer, cigars ..... just the two of us and we took the dogs. They had a blast.
Pete is now the King of the beach having attacked every horseshoe crab and sea weed bundle he encountered.
only pics I took (lame) beach was about 300 ft away.

Mason chillaxin'

Pete and Mason couple hours before we left

Jeep with some new front end mods and some wicked cool new eyes (JW Speaker) headlights and fogs - Sick Lights

Sounds like you guys had a great time Rubi. It looks really beautiful there. Your jeep is looking good!!!

Jealous of your trip!! Sounds like heaven! Glad you stayed grounded those propeller hats can be dangerous!! Haha!

The OBX (off season) and "up the beach" is quite a place. Road ends..... drop into 4x4 and head towards the water (turn Left) up the beach and drive for 12 miles. High tide is a challenge. First time I took Kim to OBX it was MidNight on the dot, a hurricane (minor) was rolling in and it was high tide. There was a row of trucks etc waiting it out at the edge. I got out and started airing down. Couple guys came up (saw my license plate) and said, "Hey, don't try this water is way too high and we ain't comin' to get ya".
Just what Kim needed to hear.
We were about 8 miles up that time.
I got back in and dropped it in 4x4 and locked my Diffs (on my Rubicon) and headed out raining like a mother, wind blowing and all you could see in my lights (six of them) was waves pounding in front - I got my left side tires up as high as I could on the dunes and at times water was coming in a little under the passenger door. To say I was "concentrating" was an understatement.
Kim was a wreck and at times I was looking to just escape up over the dune and hope for the best.
We made it but I'd never do that again, 15 years ago and I was still a little more of a risk taker back then.
Washed the jeep off and had a few that night.
Jeeps are truly amazing vehicles, the driver runs out of nerve before they run out of capability most of the time.
I HIGHLY recommend one to anybody that ever thought of getting one.

See, Rubi.....these are the stories I was missing......

I'm glad you're back !!! Although it sounds like you had an incredible time when you were away.......

I really really enjoyed it. I was just discussing that with a buddy, It had been several years since I got away and I can not do that anymore - I don't want to do that anymore.
I feel better having gotten away and relaxed, almost forgot how to. I will get better at that too:)

Beautiful pics! Great story! Glad you were able to unwind and fully relax. That is hard to do as I have come to realize as I get older.

Thanks for sharing!

Enjoyed the read, Rubi. Those homes in the photo are very nice. Bet they sport some cool construction and storm preparedness features.

Pete, Mason and the Jeep look like they enjoyed it too.

- nice Rubi, looks like you all had a good time!

tried some stuff in our offroaders some time but nothing quite as scary

Mandatory Fun Time with your Jeep, dogs, and of course Kim, cigars, beer and a Hinderer or two in the OBX, now that's what I call a vacation! Cool pictures, thanks for sharing Rubi !
Joe

Pete does not like chipmunks either........:) This was supposed to be a nice walk, we never made it off the property.

Love that picture of Pete tracking down the chipmunks, if only we could face life with even half the tenacity and enthusiasm that he shows going after big or small critters we would all be better off!

A Heartbreaking Story Of Tragedy And Loss.........(From An XM Collector's Point Of View.......Not Anything That Really Matters......)

So I have been on the hunt for a 3.5" or 3" Dagger XM for over 6 months.....and the grail.....the ultimate XM......the most beautiful XM I have ever seen.......is a 3.5" Armored Dagger with a hand-rubbed, satin finished lockside........it's a one-of-a-kind Hinderer........Rob posted a picture of it years ago......and it's the only picture of it I have ever seen......but I have looked at it well over a hundred times.......

Well, this morning it was posted by a dealer on Facebook.......

Within three minutes a friend from the forums emailed me about it and in under 5 minutes total, from the second it was posted, I had emailed the dealer........

.........only to find out that the most incredible XM I have ever seen was sold.......even before the pic was posted........

So close......and yet never had a chance........

Sigh..........:(

Justin......not the dealer's fault in any way......lots of dealers post XMs they have sold........just a missed opportunity........so the search continues......

Time has taught me many things....one such lesson is many things happen for a reason. Watch for a better thing to happen.

Indeed, Rubi.........I agree......things do seem to happen for a reason......although it's not always apparent at the time.......
I actually had a conversation with a friend a little while ago about fate vs. coincidence......
And in the grand scheme, this was just the minor disappointment of a Hinderer enthusiast......the XM that got away.......nothing more........
(Still......the one that got away was pretty sweet......) :D
