N2K, that is actually sort of what I was thinking, but in slightly different terms. I have, shall we say, a short temper for when anything I own doesn't perform up to a certain standard or reliability. It's why I was originally drawn to Hinderer, it is an overarching factor in how I picked my light, my wallet, my jeans, boots, and almost anything else that I interact with on a regular basis. That being said, I'm not a huge fan of the experience of writing with a space pen cartridge. I universally sacrifice the preference I have for some other more enjoyable cartridges for the sheer reliability of fisher's, and so long as the investigator is comfortable enough to cross a normal threshold it'll forever be in my pocket (and if not there will be an ED there). Eventually I'll get around to getting something that I enjoy the writing experience of a bit more, but it would drive me crazy not having something of the utmost reliability with me. Also, I love the look of the copper investigator and I suspect with thick-ish O-rings it'll be perfectly good pen for almost every circumstance.
You are not alone in searching for what works best for you in all things....as many as practical, that is.
As for the pens...I could list what I do and don't like about every pen I've ever used, but experiencing them for yourself trumps opinions of others.
