Our "Front Porch" ....

I wanted to share this with my friends on this Hinderer sub forum. My dad passed away Sunday with his family by his side after a short battle with cancer. The importance of having good friends and family trump everything in life. It's easy to have friends when things are going well, when tough times set in, we all know who can be counted on. Dad lived a hard but full farmers life and did and see a lot in his 86 yrs.
When we laid him to rest yesterday at the cemetary it was a cool and very windy, my mother was seated next to the casket and I was by her side. The stress and loss combined made her start to shiver, I took off my suit jacket to wrap around her legs to keep her warm. Immediately I felt someone place their jacket over my shoulders and others placed their jackets on mom also. As if practiced prior to the service, the rest of the men removed their jackets for the rest of the ceremony, this gesture warmed everyone bodily and spiritually. Great to have good friends and family !

I'm sorry for your loss, it's easy to see he was a good man.

My condolences go out to you and your family. Sounds like he lived a good life :)

Good family and friends :)

FO, my sincere condolences for you and your family. From your words you and your family are surrounded by loved ones, the truly important part of life.

All my best,
Shane

FO, my Jacket is off, and I'm remembering the first time I ever became aware of you and your father, in a post you wrote about how much he appreciated your hinderer, when you lent it to him to cut his dinner. It was that story that really brought me into the fold of seeing all of those in this forum as people rather than text on a computer screen. Your account of the importance of having control over his meal on his terms with your knife, and the dignity you returned to him show just how much character your own father gave to you, and how the reflection of his character will always beam from your father onto everyone you meet. Long live that reflection, and my warmest condolences to you and your family, especially your mom.

FO, I'm sorry for your loss- the world is always worse off for the loss of a good man. It sounds like your father was a loved and respected man, and I'm sure you have memories, including yesterday's service, that will always remind and inspire you. If there is anything I can do in any small way please let me know.

Nathan

I want to Thank the RHK Members for their kind (heartfelt) words. I know Joe thanked you ALL and I want you to know that I asked Joe for permission to pay respect and mark a moment that we will move forward from with nobody feeling Ill at ease about doing so.
Good Men (Joes Dad being one) Live their lives not wanting to make much of a ripple in the pond when they depart, they choose to leave the way they lived - doing more than they showed.
Never the less, We all know the ripple that is felt so...... here is a pic to mark the transition and say Thank You to a Man and ALL the Men that have "made a difference".
Raise a Glass. Thank you.

Last few weekends have been busy.

Last weekend at the school my two are looking at..

Weekend prior, not great for Mason. We'll leave it at that.

Howdy folks and happy Thanksgiving! I know we all have a long list of things we are all thankful for- friends, family, country, food, and in general all around us, but I'd like to offer a special thanks to those who participate around here. I've had more than a few not so great days this year, and more often than not it is nice to be able to relax and see what's going on around here. I've carried a knife since I could walk (literally- there are pictures somewhere that I keep threatening to burn), but really only started getting into gear more seriously about a year ago and dedicating time and energy to researching it. I'm happy with where I am in my collection, and that is in no small part to the people here. Thanks everyone.

Hope by now everyone is safe and sound at home after a good thanksgiving. Looks like it's going to be an awesome week for herd members. :D

Thanks Rubi! And yes it is going to be an awesome week! I should receive my (first) investigator tomorrow. I've been on the fence back and forth between the investigator, extreme duty, and two other more expensive non Hinderer pens. I, naturally, decided it had to be an investigator or ED now for general edc and I could worry about other options if necessary later. I'm a little worried about the size still. I actually write quite a lot, especially lately, and small pens + lots of writing frequently lead to bad results. On the flip side, if it isn't for me I'll return it and simultaneously order one of the new FDE ED pens as a replacement.

Rubi,

Overlooked your post from the 21st. Good looking group in first image...wishing them the happiest of higher educational experiences. As for Mason, I'm sorry for his uhm...condition.

Happy Turkey Day to you and the Family.

You'll likely purchase both.

Here's why...the Investigator proves very convenient to have on your person when larger pens are not practical. With the cap screwed on the back, it's big enough for writing. But the ED benefits from its larger size for extended writing.

I still EDC a large "clicky" pen and the Investigator is a "backup" that has come in very handy when ink runs dry in the primary or it's lent to another / set elsewhere.

N2K, that is actually sort of what I was thinking, but in slightly different terms. I have, shall we say, a short temper for when anything I own doesn't perform up to a certain standard or reliability. It's why I was originally drawn to Hinderer, it is an overarching factor in how I picked my light, my wallet, my jeans, boots, and almost anything else that I interact with on a regular basis. That being said, I'm not a huge fan of the experience of writing with a space pen cartridge. I universally sacrifice the preference I have for some other more enjoyable cartridges for the sheer reliability of fisher's, and so long as the investigator is comfortable enough to cross a normal threshold it'll forever be in my pocket (and if not there will be an ED there). Eventually I'll get around to getting something that I enjoy the writing experience of a bit more, but it would drive me crazy not having something of the utmost reliability with me. Also, I love the look of the copper investigator and I suspect with thick-ish O-rings it'll be perfectly good pen for almost every circumstance.
