Overbuilt folders : Yes or no?

I am not a fan of the weight but why not? I assume you own plenty of slicey knives already. Gotta see for yourself.

I still think Cold Steel does the best balance of overbuilt, yet not necessarily overweight. Regardless, some are just built with slabs of titanium and bring a smile to my face even if they put a kink in my back from wearing all day:p Paired with a slicer (or two) is the best of both worlds if you don't mind the extra weight.

I access daily the USPS tracking page for my XIO Alpha 1 (black model) in order to know when it will arrive on my side of the pond :):):)

That pouch in the top of the frame looks very like the Adamas pouch.

I know they are heavy. I know they are large. I know it's better to use a fixed blade for hard tasks. I know it's better to use a thin and light folder for EDC. I'm sure Freud would have something to say about this...
But I still like my overbuilt folders :)

- Benchmade Adamas
- Grayman Satu
- Crusader Forge VIS-T
- Strider SMF
- Cold Steel 4-Max
- Cold Steel SR1

Which do you like best?

After multiple attempts by multiple posters in this thread, there are still plenty of people think overweight = overbuilt. No - they are not the same thing.

Similar to the many that think any serious "survival" fixed blade must have a full-sized, visible tang in order to be a considered a survival knife. I think there are many misconceptions, but agree that bulky/overweight don't always lead to increased strength, and locking mechanisms can be deceptive.

I think overbuild stuff is cool however I don't tend to buy them. They often are very thick behind the edge, heavy and not suited for the edc tasks that i use my knives for. Just my mileage.

I tend to go through phases. Sometimes I'm interested in thinner sleek knives. Other times (like now) I'm all about heavy duty tanks. They all have their place in my collection.

But what I tend to carry most lately is somewhere in the middle (Manix2 and Military).

Excellent. Both the Ultimate Hunter and SR1 are on my list. And both are linerless.

I may have said this before. The Ultimate Hunter is somewhat like a mini 4Max . Same blade shape, long handle, very strong, long comfortable handle, great ergonomics. Half the weight, 1/3 the price,4/5 the strength.
My kind of knife! Great outdoor worker.
