I imagine this thread will get some people fired up but I thought it might be an interesting topic. In your experience what is the most overrated knife? I will go first and say the kershaw blur. I know lots of people devote there entire collection to this single knife but for me this knife has one horrible flaw. After seeing a video discussing the extremely weak lock on these knives I put mine to the test and found that my lock would fail with minimal pressure to the spine of the blade. For me the most overrated knife is the kershaw blur. What's yours?

Not this again. Fair warning OP, as I see you're new around here. These threads have A. been done a million times and B. usually end up locked. As an example of what I mean, I disagree with your assertion that Blurs have weak locks after having owned several different Blurs in my life, all of which held up just fine. So, they aren't overrated.

Instead of opening a venue for people to slam knife makers and companies, why not tell us what your favorite knife or brand is?

Thanks for the input. I will keep it in mind moving forward.

Sometimes, I try to convince myself a knife is overrated simply because it's not within my budget :/ but I'm really just trying to make myself feel better.

What type of "test" did you perform? What validity do you have? Compared to what standard?

Spine whacking on concrete followed by batoning on hardened oak with a sledgehammer. Then nuke it from orbit. Only way to be sure.

Or press the spine into a block sharp cheddar. If it folds someone has some explaining to do.

In before the lock down.
Never Ever under any circumstances buy a Busse. They are way overrated. :hopelessness: WTF Coming soon BABY!!!!!!! Tuxedo Tuckin, Rolex Wearing, Limo Drivin!!! WHAOOOOO!!!

I owned a Blur and I thought it was a good knife and a great value for the money. I wasn't so keen on the recurve blade or the aluminum scales so I eventually sold mine.

I think the most overrated is the Sebenza. I find the styling to be a bit blah and the price to be high but that is strictly my opinion. I don't doubt that it is a very quality product and if people like it then that is great for them.

I think the Benchmade 710 is overrated but that is partly my dislike for recurve blades and partly because I think it is a bit thin.

Isn't that how everyone does it BB??
Seems like a fair test!

My test would not stand up to a researchers scrutiny I can assure you of that but on my own example I was able to force the knife closed with pressure from my own hands when the lock bar was in place. I tried this with all my other knives that were liner lock and frame lock which included some kershaw knives and other brands. While I understand that the spine whack test is no way to truly test a knife I also don't expect a knife to fail that easily either. Here is a link to the video that I first saw that made me want to check my own knife.

I did the exact same test on all of my Blurs and the locks held up just fine. Besides, are you going to use the spine or the edge when you're cutting stuff? A spine whack test on an edc folder is meaningless.

The people who aren't emotionally attached to their knives are better off in threads like this.

Perhaps I just had a bad example of one and although I would typically agree that a spine whack test is meaningless on a folder I would still expect the lock to hold to some extent. If you watch the video I posted you can see how easily the example knife failed and I wouldn't consider him attempting to test the knife when it failed. A knife is made for cutting, but I will admit to using my knife for other things when nothing else is available such as prying or lightly tapping different things and I imagine many others due the same. Although the way the knife was being used was not its intended purpose for me it was enough to move on to other preferred knives. I'm glad that you are happy with your Blurs but for me it was not up to my personal standards.
