overrated knives

I'm glad somebody mentioned the grip. In a way it's a lot like the blur. A small run of the mill folder. The axis lock is probably stronger but that means nothing haha.

I think ZT is overrated. Most of their designs are tacky and they can't seem to make anything sleek or lightweight. Just my opinion, and what the hell do I know anyway?

ZT 0450CF has become one of my absolute favorites. The only other one I have is a 0562 and it's just too bulky for me to pack around. I still think it's worth the price though.

"knives you can't seem to love"

Spyderco, I haven't found one yet that suits me...only tried 3 so far, but that'll probably be it. I wouldn't consider them overrated, just not for me.

I did the exact same test on all of my Blurs and the locks held up just fine. Besides, are you going to use the spine or the edge when you're cutting stuff? A spine whack test on an edc folder is meaningless.

Then why do they have locks at all? Slipjoints and friction folders hold the blade open during cutting.

Fair enough, that one has been on my radar for a while, but I'm not the biggest fan of flippers. In that regard ZT isn't really my go-to brand. It seems that everything they make is an overbuilt heavy flipper. That's their thing. I get that. But that makes the whole brand pretty one sided. Spyderco, on the other hand, makes every size and style under the sun. Kershaw is going down hill in my opinion too. They only released 1 new, non-automatic, USA made, model in the last year: the Link. The rest of their line is made overseas. Their Chinese made knives are good for the money, but thats all the good you could say about those. KAI is slipping.

Another vote for CS here, they perform, are dependable, tough, with nice steel and materials, well made grinds and shapes and they beat the Emersons in each and every way.

And some of them do include pocket catchers that IMO work better than the original Wave catcher.

All that at half the $ or less. So yes, to me Emerson is overrated. And doesn't have XL folders...

Let's not talk F&F here...

Spoken like a true douche bag, who's never owned a Cold Steel product. Personally, I like getting twice the knife for half the money. Their newly upgraded folders are superb and the Tri-Ad lock is peerless.

So I guess CTS XHP, CPM 3V, CPM S35VN, and CPM 20CV are "low-end materials"

You know what's overrated? Your biased and uninformed opinion. Hate on, my friend. Hate on.

This is the other reason I don't care for Cold Steel. People who take any criticism like an insult to their mother. Calm down dude.

Don't blame you one bit Tim. I saw that vid and panicked also!! I have a grand total of one Kershaw. It's a Blur and it locks up solid.......but I did check it after I saw that vid also!

what do you mean by peerless? Are you saying tri-ad lock is better than any other lock? in what sense?

Japanese line of Spyderco folders is overrrated and overpriced - They should focus on Taiwan production. Emerson/Al-Mar/ZT is just overpriced, Benchmade overpriced a little bit, Cold Steel is underrated and that what Kershaw is doing with their brand is failure. Where are knives like Random Task 440V steel?

Too little courtesy, too much hyperbole. This is the General Knife Discussion. Personal insults are completely out of line.

Closed.

When copious heaps of bullshit are spewed from sphincter of the uninformed, someone needs to point out it's not a chocolate fondue fountain.

However, if you feel that the burden of responsibility for that education has fallen squarely on YOUR shoulders, then try using some tact and less obvious emotion. It will get the intended point across much more strongly, and keep your intended audiences attention. When you insult people, you lose them regardless how "right" or "important" your message may be. Most people can tell when someone is trolling for attention by the low hanging fruit in a post. Just because it is there, doesn't mean it needs to be taken. One can literally write several books pointing out the various misinformed opinions in many posts alone.
