Owning the kills initiative: October challenge

Here is my first attempt at a figure 4. I've been trapped in the urban jungle so far this month, so my raw materials are chopsticks.

Thanks for the challenge. I hope to get out in the woods and try this with actual materials.

CoyotePhysics, love the use of a Physics book as the weight for the trap, very apropos.

Great thread, I want in when I get home.

It's a nice day to get outside & do some playing around.

I decided to use a few different tools for this:

Once you get the stick split, this one is the easiest to make & set up:

The thing is though, that I had to use a shorter & lighter trigger stick with this one or it wouldn't hold together with the weight on it.
Maybe needs some fine tuning.

This one wasn't too bad to make:

It worked better after I removed some of the material below where the trigger stick contacts the upright.
I was able to use a longer trigger stick with this one:

Had a fun morning doing this...thanks for the challenge!

WOW, that Buck vanguard brings back memories !! I still have my first one(classic wood handle) but lost the second one(like yours) on a hike..

Thanks for sharing the pics of it in use...

Next one, used a tomato for bait! right next to one of my rotties graves on the family farm.

heres my first (been busy over the weekend) I'm not going to post a pic every day, just my first, if I figure out something informative about building the trap (yeah, right) and my last one, just to see if theres any noticeable improvement or changes.

I started with this piece of wood. I used my Izula for everything on the trap

Heres the trap. I used a landscaping brick for the weight.

One thing I noticed, is that its pretty easy to get it built to hold the weight, but its pretty hard to get it to hold the weight and still release easily.

My Saturday trap was a failure. Time and weather kept me from trying again, but I suppose I learned a thing or two.

Here's Sunday's successful trap:

Sorry guys, I won't be putting up today, I had a crap day. Some SOB stole $300 buck off me at Home Deput today. That was my Fiddleback money. I am VERY pissed right not. I'll catch up. Moose

No worries. I hope he dies horribly. That was for a Fiddleback Machete and a hunter. Wasn't gonna be enough, but it would have been close. Moose

Here's mine from today. Quick and ugly, but it works. This rain has got to go.
