Here's where it hooks the upright:

The diagonal part:

I split the end to hold the bait on this one like someone suggested earlier:

This is what happened to my scraps & failures:

Needed some extra weight so whipped up some milkweed cordage and tied on a log.

Here are my latest traps including photographic evidence that I have been outside!

#13: The rock used as a weight for this one was nearly perfectly rectangular, which isn’t terribly uncommon here in Utah. There was a nice rock slide nearby that provided slabs of all sizes

Here is a picture of Kirby trying to help. He had fun, but couldn’t understand why I would cut such handy sized sticks and then not let him play with them.

It is back inside for # 15. I enhanced this one with some advertising. I also found that if I cut the trigger notch deep I could always make it more sensitive by sliding the trigger stick down a little.

I can’t wait until the 20th to see what RescueRiley has in store for us next.

ok got yah. i was just sitting there thinking that myst one beastily rodent to get caught under that.

I got 2 days off from my second job (sheaths) to go and play outside with my kids, I got 16 to catch up on. Heading out with my new mora right now to play. B C N ya. Moose

Sorry for the hiatus, RR, life before pleasure, lol. I knocked out 4 tonight, in between refereeing a "zombie vs. vampire" deathmatch. Girls. What can I say. :D

I was working with Red Oak (some for my gathering), and I one lumped it. I took a large piece, and BK2'ed it to managable pieces for the mora. Here goes

What I learned:
-Triflex carbon steel is a gift from the Swedish Gods. If you don't have some, get some
-I like working with square edges better than drop sticks, in a pinch they'll do, but this was pure heaven
-Tarp hats look cool even when you're just sitting at a picnic table carving wood
-If you take an 8 week break in your bushcrafting, survivalcraft, and whittling, you gotta lotta calouses to rebuild.

I'll be back with more. Moose

Great stuff Guys.... Looking Good....
Skab I noticed your traps are lookin greal tight brother....
Looks like it;s working...we migh tbe starting to own a skill lol

I tried the top-notch style like Cliff. I must say I'm a fan!

I might have to make the rest like this.

Me too. I have made dozens of these over the years and it never occurred to me to make a notch on top of the trigger stick. Thus, allowing a vertical pull down to set the trap instead of just a horizontal one. That's what makes this forum so freakin' fantastic! There are always people with more/different ideas and experiences to learn from. I have been "bushcrafting" to some degree or another for two decades and I hope I am never in a position that I think I know enough to stop learning. By the way RR, you have stumbled across a fantastic idea. Thank you.

This has been one of the best threads ever. Here is my contribution.

Knife used was my home made one.

Size of the knife is 20cm so the trap was a bit big, but fun to do. In the video the trap is not that sensitive, but I adjusted it later and I barely tapped it with the weight of the stick and it triggered.

I have always struggled with the figure 4 until I saw the one that Mears made in one of his shows. I did a similar one here and it works for me.

But at the same time with that notch like that you are limiting if the animal happens to raise its head, then spook because or the resistance and jet just as the trap falls.

I like Ron Hoods way of shaving off the edge under the trigger, in this you tube video he discusses and shows how to do what I'm talking about right about 3:30.

I hit the park today with my girlfriend and she took a few pictures. Here's a trap I made. :)
