Package Delivered Customer Won't Even Cooperate--What would you do?

I see people on here all the time of people that do a trade or make an order and don't get the item. The seller won't respond then everything escalates.

From time to time we have packages that we (KnivesShipFree) ships to a customer, the tracking says, "Delivered" but the customer says they didn't receive it. Insurance is void at that point because the insurer just says, "It looks like the package was delivered, so it is not our issue."

Most of the time the package was delivered and the guy's wife has it on her desk or his kid has it in his bedroom or it is delivered the next day--something like that. Occasionally it doesn't show up.

Here is my dilemma. We have a customer in that situation now. He paid with PayPal. PayPal protects sellers against this sort of thing and they also protect buyers. Essentially they look at the delivered status and don't take the money away from us and they refund the money to the customer because they say they didn't get the product. We have a customer who just refuses to simply file the claim with PayPal. He wants us to just ship him another knife or send him money.

I think it sounds fishy. I can't figure out why a guy wouldn't just click the link and file the claim like we asked and then we can get him another knife.

What would you guys do?

There are two potential situations. Either the customer had the package swiped out of his mail after being delivered, or he simply wants a second knife that will mysteriously appear on eBay. I'm hoping for the first one, but people suck and the second isn't unlikely.

Politely remind them they chose to pay with paypal. Now they must be satisfied by paypal. Something something the only way you are the getting money or the knife...........paypal.
Edit. Sounds like a scam.

What's his recourse \ consequences to you if he won't file the PayPal claim? Seems he's SOL until he files the PayPal claim?

Until he files a claim there's no valid reason for you to send another knife.

You provided tracking info', so he knew when it was coming. A valuable package like that, he should have made arraignments for it to be held at his Post Office, or for someone to get it out of his mail box promptly to prevent theft.

There's only so much a seller can do once a package ships, he needs to cooperate with PayPal.

Stick to your guns, Derrick. There's a process to follow and you've laid that out for the customer. He simply has to do his part now.

y'all are good people. helped me on a minor issue that wasnt y'alls fault by any means and went above and beyond what i needed.

maybe he has bad usps folks like i do. ive had packages shown as delivered and never delivered. ive covered this here before on other threads. this isnt the place or time to distract with all my stories.

weird his refusal to file as you said. makes me suspicious but maybe its a fear of getting a bad standing with paypal or some other not suspicious reason? i say stick to your guns on him claiming paypal. if no one loses then he has to participate. if you explain it to him or have and he can verify with paypal he isnt losing anything and still refuses then something is amiss.

good luck to y'all.....i know ill keep buying from ya.

KSF......along with Derrick & Tyler......is an outstanding dealer and an absolute pleasure to deal with!! Every time!!

Question.......was it a high end item??
Sounds like your customer is either being unreasonable or quite simply a scammer.
Don't send another knife brother!! There HAS to be a reason he doesn't want to contact PP and it's got nothing to do with you guys.
Hope this ends well for you!!
Joe......a very satisfied customer of KSF!!!

Sounds fishy to me. I have recently made quite a few purchases from Knifes Ship Free using paypal and have had great service from KSF. If the problem can be rectified through paypal that should be how its taken care of. If the tracking# says delivered I would find it hard to believe it wasn't.

Make him deal with PayPal, what happens to you guys if you ship a new knife outside the eyes of PayPal and after receiving it the buyer files a claim for the original knife with PayPal not being aware of the second one. Now you would be out two knives and your money.

do you require signature for delivery which you should?

I stay away from companies that require signatures. Yeh it helps make sure the product get to the customer, it's a huge inconvenience for me have to rush on out to usps before they close.

This is a tricky situation.

This is a really good suggestion.

I like to think better of people but I don't honestly know how PayPal would side in that situation. On one hand they have a second shipping label but how can they prove it was for a second item.

I also like to think better of people........not this guy!! The only reason I can fathom not wanting to involve PP is scam.

100% PayPal sides with the customer. It is the nature of their double guarantee. They guarantee the payment to the vendor and the delivery to the consumer. It is why PayPal charges a lot more than a regular merchant account.
